It’s been two decades since the beloved sitcom Mad About You first graced our screens, and let’s just say fans everywhere were thrilled when it finally made its triumphant return. And who better to talk about it than Helen Hunt herself? The actress, now 56, couldn’t be prouder of how the reboot turned out, and she opened up about it at the PBS Winter Television Critics Association Press Tour on January 10.
“We worked on this project for years, and when we finally got the green light, we shot it quickly,” Helen told Closer Weekly and other reporters. “It was a labor of love for everyone involved—our hearts and souls were poured into it. I’m incredibly proud of what we created together. But honestly, I don’t know what’s next for the show. We’ll have to wait and see.”
Helen and Paul Reiser: The Dynamic Duo That Makes It Work
When it comes to the success of the reboot, Helen credits much of it to her on-screen partner, Paul Reiser. “The rhythm between Paul and me is just there. It’s not something we can take credit for—it’s just natural,” she explained. “But the real secret weapon is the writing. We had Peter Tolan and a team of incredible writers in the room, and they really brought the magic to life. Honestly, we were surprised that it took so long for anyone to want to make this happen. We thought we’d be fighting off offers, but instead, it seemed like no one wanted to touch it for a while. Thankfully, we finally got the chance to bring it back.”

Helen went on to explain how the entire process was a joy for everyone involved. “We had all this time to plan and rethink things, to make sure we were striking the right balance. The show has always been about being real, funny, silly, and deep all at once. And with Paul, I’ve always had the perfect partner. We almost always agree, and even when we don’t, we respect each other’s opinions. It truly was a wonderful experience.”
Will There Be Another Season?
Now, the big question on everyone’s mind: Is there another season of Mad About You in the works? Helen had a straightforward answer. “No one has asked us yet, so I can’t say for sure. If we’re lucky enough to get another season, we’d be thrilled, but for now, it’s still up in the air.”
