Back to the Future star Michael J. Fox has had quite the journey when it comes to finding his dream home. Born in Canada, this legendary actor has built an impressive real estate portfolio alongside his beloved wife, Tracy Pollan. With four kids and a life full of adventure, their search for the perfect place has taken them across the country. Let’s take a closer look at the homes they’ve called home over the years.
Michael J. Fox's Past Residences: Where Did It All Begin?
Michael and Tracy, who have been married since 1988, once lived in Quogue, New York, with their four children—Sam, Aquinnah, Schuyler, and Esmé. Back in 2008, they purchased a stunning six-bedroom home there for $6.3 million. This was the perfect place for raising their family, but life has a way of changing things. By 2021, they decided to sell the property for $6.1 million, marking the end of an era in their lives.

Another standout property in their portfolio was an apartment in New York City with breathtaking views of Central Park. In December 2012, they gave fans a peek inside this gorgeous residence through a feature in Architectural Digest. With the help of the interior design company Gomez Associates, Michael and Tracy transformed the space into something truly special. Tracy shared her thoughts on the process, saying, “Our tastes changed, but we held off redecorating—it seemed like a big undertaking. Something would rip, and I’d say, ‘Just wait.’ The paint would peel. I’d say, ‘Just wait.’”

But it wasn’t just about city living for this dynamic duo. In 1997, Michael and Tracy ventured further down the East Coast to build a stunning home on 80 acres of land in New England. This property was inspired by a childhood memory of Michael’s—a visit to a regal estate in British Columbia, Canada, when he was just ten years old. He recalled, “I’d never seen anything like it. When I asked the lady who lived there why they’d built it that way, she said, ‘I wanted to stand in the middle of the room, call out my children’s names, and have them be able to hear—and answer—me from any room in the house.’ Something about that struck me as a great idea. I never forgot it.” Though the country house was everything they dreamed of, they decided to put it on the market in September 2016 for $4.25 million.
Where Does Michael J. Fox Call Home Today?
After selling their charming home in New York, Michael and Tracy made the move to Santa Barbara, California. However, their stay there was short-lived. Michael, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the age of 29, explained their decision in an October 2021 interview with People. “We did an interesting thing. We sold our house, and we went to Santa Barbara for a couple of months. We’re going to go to Malibu later this year and hang out. We don’t have anybody to pick up at school!”
With all four of their children now grown and living their own lives, Michael and Tracy have more freedom than ever before. But that doesn’t mean family time is a thing of the past. Michael shared, “I have a great family. My kids are spectacular, and they apply their energy to change and making things better. You should see our family text chain. It goes on forever!”
