The View's charismatic cohost, Sunny Hostin, is thrilled to announce that her popular trilogy is set to be adapted into a series for Amazon. And guess what? She's already hoping that her beloved cohost Whoopi Goldberg might join the project. Sunny, who’s been a part of The View for years, is excited to bring her novels to life on the big screen, and she’s not shy about sharing her dream cast.
From Books to Screen: Sunny Hostin's Exciting Journey
“We’ve been given the green light to move forward with a pilot,” Sunny revealed during The View’s “Behind the Table” podcast. “We’re deep into writing it right now, and we’re planning to submit the pilot to Amazon in just a couple of weeks. Things are really moving forward, and it feels amazing!” Sunny, who is 55, spoke with genuine excitement, sharing her vision for the series and the actors she'd love to see in the roles.
Whoopi Goldberg and Octavia Spencer: Casting Dreams
“If everything aligns, I’d absolutely love to see Octavia Spencer play the role of Cindy,” Sunny said. “But, you know, casting is tricky, and sometimes schedules don’t cooperate. If Octavia’s schedule doesn’t work out, then Whoopi Goldberg would be my next choice. I think she’d bring so much depth and character to the role of Cindy. I’ve already reached out to both, but I haven’t heard back yet.” Sunny’s enthusiasm for casting the right talent is palpable, and she’s clearly excited about the possibility of working with some of Hollywood's brightest stars.

Big Dreams: Zendaya, John David Washington, and Regé-Jean Page
“I have so many dreams for this series,” Sunny continued. “I’d love to see Zendaya take on one of the lead roles. She’s such a dynamic actress, and I think she’d bring a lot of energy to the screen. I’m also eyeing John David Washington and Regé-Jean Page. They’re both incredibly talented, and I think they’d be perfect for the roles I have in mind.” Sunny’s vision for the series is ambitious, and she’s clearly thinking big when it comes to casting.
Amazon has acquired the rights to all three books in the trilogy, meaning the series will span multiple seasons, with each season based on one of the novels. “It’s going to be a season per book,” Sunny explained. “Amazon has the rights to all three books, and I’m thrilled about the potential this series holds.”
From Page to Screen: A Love Letter to Summer
Sunny’s first novel, Summer on the Bluffs, was released back in 2020, and it quickly became a hit. The second book, Summer on Sag Harbor, followed in 2023. “There’s so much fun in this book, and yes, there are plenty of steamy scenes!” Sunny told Closer in May 2023. “Joy Behar told me that a great beach read always has to have good sex, and I took that advice to heart. But it’s also historical fiction, so I hope readers will enjoy learning about history in a fun and engaging way.”
The third book in the trilogy, Summer on Highland Beach, was just released. Sunny explained that the trilogy was always her vision. “I planned this as a trilogy from the start. It’s a love letter to the places I’ve spent my summers. These are generally African-American communities that not many people know about. They’re private, exclusive, and full of history. I learned so much from the people who’ve lived there for generations, and I wanted to share that with my readers.”

Sunny Hostin Productions: A Media Venture with a Mission
In addition to her successful career as a TV host, Sunny launched Sunny Hostin Productions in 2021. “I wanted to create a space where diverse voices could shine,” she told Variety. “I want people to watch my work and realize that seeing an Afro Latina journalist on screen is not only possible but inspiring.” Sunny’s media company is a testament to her commitment to diversity and representation in the entertainment industry.
Sunny has always been passionate about writing, which is evident in her novels. “I’ve been journaling since I was a kid, long before it became trendy,” she shared. “I’ve always loved making up stories and immersing myself in the process of writing. I never imagined that I’d end up working with Whoopi Goldberg every day, but life has a way of surprising you.”
