Figuring out how to keep life fun and engaging while stuck at home during quarantine isn’t always simple, but Kristen Bell has some creative tricks up her sleeve. The actress, alongside her husband Dax Shepard, has been finding ways to entertain their daughters, Lincoln and Delta, amidst the global pandemic.
“We’ve been diving into all sorts of art projects around the house,” Kristen told ET on April 1, 2020. She added, “We’ve got this awesome neon glow paint, and we’ve been painting rocks outside so they light up at night. It’s been such a blast—just doing silly stuff together.” At 39 years old, Kristen emphasized the importance of reconnecting as a family during these unusual times. “That’s the biggest lesson here,” she said with a smile. “Reconnecting with each other is priceless.”

Out-of-the-Box Ideas from Kristen and Dax
As a mom of two young girls—Lincoln, who’s 7, and Delta, 5—Kristen knows firsthand how challenging it can be to keep kids entertained during lockdown. With social distancing measures in place across the U.S. to slow the spread of COVID-19, Kristen and Dax, 45, have embraced the extra time at home. “We’ve been thinking outside the box,” Kristen explained. “Their favorite activity? Sticker books. We’ve also been diving deep into the world of Harry Potter. They’re totally obsessed with the series!”
Lincoln's Magical Birthday
Despite the pandemic restrictions, Kristen went all out to make Lincoln’s seventh birthday unforgettable. “I had ordered decorations before everything shut down,” she said. “When it came time to celebrate, we put up a Harry Potter banner, along with all the Hogwarts house banners all over the windows. She was thrilled! We even broke out our Harry Potter tattoos. It was a magical day, even if it wasn’t exactly what we’d planned.”
Adjusting to Life at Home
Though Kristen has adapted to life in quarantine with her family, she admitted it wasn’t smooth sailing at first. “I’ll be honest—I tried to create this color-coded schedule,” she joked. “It was supposed to distinguish ‘academic time’ from ‘art time.’ But by day five, I was driving everyone crazy. The kids hated it. So one morning, I woke them up and said, ‘This is your most important mission ever—get up!’ I brought them into the kitchen, handed them scissors, and let them shred the schedule. It was liberating. The key takeaway? If something isn’t working, don’t hesitate to pivot.”

While Kristen has managed to keep her daughters entertained, she admitted that keeping Dax amused has been a different story. “We’ve definitely gotten on each other’s nerves over the past few days,” she joked. “But laughter has been the best medicine. Once we started laughing about it, things got so much better. Those first couple of days, though? Tough stuff.”

“Don’t get me wrong—we love spending time together,” Kristen clarified. “But being stuck at home for endless hours can make you hyper-aware of every little thing your partner does or says. That kind of overthinking? Totally unnecessary. Nobody needs that.”
