Even though Bindi Irwin couldn’t have the extravagant wedding she might have dreamed of, she managed to honor her late father, the legendary Steve Irwin, in the most meaningful way possible. The event was filled with heartfelt tributes, making it a celebration of love and family.
“Where we got married was such a special place to dad,” Bindi, now 23, shared with People magazine about her March 25 ceremony with Chandler Powell. “It’s a beautiful little area where he had filmed for many years. It felt really wonderful and just meant to be. It was like everything aligned perfectly for us to be there.”
Special Moments That Paid Tribute to Steve Irwin
It wasn’t just the location that held significance for Steve. Bindi ensured her father was present in spirit throughout the day. She had a special photo of her dad with his beloved dog, Sui, prominently displayed. “We had dad’s picture with his dog Sui blown up on an easel,” she explained. “So mom and Robert were standing right next to dad as we exchanged vows. We had a candle-lighting ceremony for him, and it really felt like he was there with us. It was such a peaceful and happy moment.”

These small but meaningful gestures ensured that Steve’s memory was a central part of the day, making it not just a wedding, but a celebration of family legacy and love.

Remembering Steve Irwin: A Father and a Legend
Back in September 2006, the world lost the beloved crocodile hunter when he was tragically attacked by a stingray at the age of 44. At the time, Bindi was only eight years old. Since his passing, she has made it her mission to honor her father in every way possible. On what would have been his 58th birthday, Bindi took to Instagram to give her dad a heartfelt shout-out.
“Dad, today is your birthday. I had an extra strong cup of tea just how you liked it. I hugged Mum for you and told her how much we love her,” she wrote alongside a throwback photo of them together. “Robert and I went on a hike through the mountains you cherished. I watched one of your documentaries with Chandler and shared stories about you. I walked through your office in the zoo and smiled at our old family photographs. Today and every day I miss you and love you beyond description. You’re always with me.”
Continuing the Legacy
Steve’s legacy continues to live on through Bindi and his 16-year-old son, Robert Irwin. His widow and the children’s mother, Terri Irwin, has chosen to remain unmarried, dedicating her life to the conservation efforts and family values that Steve stood for. Together, they carry on his mission of protecting wildlife and inspiring others to do the same.
