As a proud father of a biracial daughter, Wayne Brady can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of pride when he talks about Maile Masako Brady, his 17-year-old daughter. The beloved star of Whose Line Is It Anyway? recently opened up about the pivotal conversations he’s had with Maile regarding racial injustice, especially in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests following the tragic death of George Floyd.

A Dad’s Perspective on His Daughter’s Growth

Wayne, now 48, revealed during a heartfelt appearance on The Talk on June 23 that Maile has already embarked on her own journey of understanding the complexities of race. He shared, “She’s diving headfirst into uncomfortable conversations, tackling issues that she has to face on her own. And I couldn’t be prouder. At 17, she understands herself racially better than I did at her age. She’s truly remarkable.”

Maile’s Role in Advocacy

The Let’s Make a Deal host, who shares Maile with his ex-wife Mandie Taketa, spoke glowingly about his daughter’s drive to inspire change. “This young lady, growing up in a biracial household, is not just aware of the world around her—she’s actively participating in shaping it,” Wayne expressed. “She’s not just an activist; she’s leading the charge. She’ll soon be heading the Black student union at her school. I’m so proud of her for stepping into her power and using her voice.”

Wayne shared a poignant moment with CBS cohosts Sharon Osbourne, Marie Osmond, Sheryl Underwood, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Eve, discussing how Maile encountered racial inequality firsthand earlier this year during a school play audition. “She got a taste of what it means to navigate these challenges,” he explained. “We had to have a serious discussion with the head of the school about colorblind casting. It’s not just about talent—it’s about representation. We need to ensure that every student feels seen and valued.”

Earlier this month, Wayne also spoke candidly about parenting and recounted a recent incident where Maile accidentally triggered their home alarm in Malibu, California. During a chat with Access Hollywood, he detailed the harrowing experience, emphasizing why it left him shaken. “I was giving her the code, but for some reason, she entered it wrong, and it wouldn’t accept it,” he recalled. “Then the alarm company said, ‘We’re sending armed response right now.’ I was so worried that in the heat of the moment, my daughter wouldn’t be able to explain, ‘Yes, this is my house.’ So, I told her, ‘Get out of the house, run around the corner, and go to your mom’s house!’”
