Hey there, friends! Let's talk about Karen E. Laine, the beloved host of Good Bones, who has just wrapped up her holiday trip to Indiana. After spending some quality time with family during the festive season, Karen decided it was time to head south for a much-needed break. The HGTV star announced that she was leaving the Hoosier State to relax in her new home in Wilmington, North Carolina, where the weather is a lot warmer and cozier.
On January 11, Karen posted a sweet update on Instagram, saying, “It’s cold in Indiana, so I’m going to head to Wilmington for a few days.” She also took a moment to express her gratitude to Debbie Hopper Real Estate Group, writing, “Thanks @debbiehopperrealestategroup for always being there for me!” It's always great to see someone appreciating the people who support them, right?
Karen's Holiday With Family
Just before Karen's departure, she was spotted celebrating Christmas Eve with her son, William Starsiak, who is a big part of her life. A candid photo of the two was shared on William’s Instagram, capturing the joyous moment. In the picture, Karen, 61, looked absolutely thrilled, radiating happiness as she embraced the holiday cheer. It seems like the family had a blast making cookies, wearing matching pajamas, and creating unforgettable memories together.

While William was present with some of his siblings and their kids, Karen's daughter, Mina Starsiak Hawk, was notably absent from the photos. However, Mina, 39, didn't let the holiday pass without sharing her own slice of the festivities. She posted a couple of pictures on her Instagram, showcasing her time with her children, Jack and Charlotte, whom she shares with her husband, Steve Hawk.
Mina Reflects on Family Celebrations
In a recent episode of her podcast, "Mina AF," Mina opened up about her holiday experience. She confessed, “Steve did not come to everything, but I did end up going to all the family celebrations. After Thanksgiving, I adjusted my mindset and realized, ‘I can’t control any of this. I’ve said my piece, people know where I stand, and me being stressed out at this point is really affecting nobody but me.’ So, I decided to move on mentally.” It's clear that Mina is learning to prioritize her peace and focus on what truly matters during the holidays.

Now, it's unclear if Karen and Mina attended the family celebration at the same time or interacted during the event. Sources have hinted that the holidays were less than ideal for the family. “The holidays were miserable,” an insider told Closer this month. It seems like there's still some tension brewing beneath the surface.
Family Drama and Moving On
Before Christmas, Mina shared on her podcast that she was “not on speaking terms” with Good Bones co-star, Cory Miller, who also happens to be Karen’s best friend. The duo recently reunited after the series finale of Good Bones and appear to be working on projects without Mina's involvement. According to sources, Mina feels like she was blindsided by the situation. “It felt petty, like Mina was stabbed in the back,” the insider added.
Karen's New Chapter
Despite the family drama, Karen is fully embracing her new chapter in life. She's diving headfirst into renovating her new home in North Carolina, with dreams of retiring there someday. “I keep thinking eventually I will actually retire,” Karen revealed on Instagram last year. “And I’ve always wanted to retire to North Carolina. So, I bought a house there with the hope of retiring there one day. It’s going to take a while to get it fixed up. And I will always come back to Indy for family and work. But in my downtime, I think I’d like to be in North Carolina.”
