Let’s face it—quarantine has been a wild ride for everyone, but for comedian and TV personality Loni Love, it’s been a chance to grow even closer to her boyfriend, James Welsh. In a candid conversation with Closer Weekly, Loni opens up about their quarantine journey and how it’s strengthened their bond. She exclusively shares, “Quarantining together has definitely brought us closer. He’s just delightful, and I couldn’t ask for a better partner to go through this with.”
At 48 years old, Loni is glowing about her relationship with James. On Thursday, May 21, while promoting her upcoming book, I Tried to Change So You Don’t Have To: True Life Lessons, she gushed about how James has been a source of joy during these challenging times. “He’s so funny and makes me laugh constantly. It’s been such a blessing to have him by my side during quarantine,” she says. Loni’s enthusiasm is infectious, and it’s clear that her relationship with James is thriving despite—or perhaps because of—the unique circumstances they’ve faced together.
Life Together in Quarantine
Spending so much time together might sound like a recipe for conflict, but Loni insists that it’s been anything but. “We haven’t argued once,” she reveals. “We’ve just been enjoying each other’s company, and honestly, it’s been wonderful.” While the couple has been together for a year and a half, quarantine has allowed them to deepen their connection. “We watch Netflix, have deep conversations, and just enjoy being around each other,” she explains.

When it comes to meals, Loni takes the lead in the kitchen. “I do all the cooking! He can’t cook at all, so I’ve got that covered,” she jokes. But don’t worry—her culinary skills seem to be up to par. “He hasn’t gotten sick from my cooking, so I figure I’m doing something right,” she adds with a laugh.
Keeping the Romance Alive
Even in quarantine, James knows how to keep things romantic. “He’s really into making sure we still have date nights, even though we’re stuck at home,” Loni shares. “We set aside time to put away our phones, light some candles, and have a little dinner together. It’s our way of keeping things special.”
For those evenings, the couple loves to relax on the couch and binge-watch their favorite shows. “It’s all about creating that atmosphere where we can just focus on each other,” Loni explains. “It’s been such a nice way to unwind and stay connected, even during these crazy times.”
A Return to Independence
Despite the closeness they’ve shared during quarantine, Loni isn’t ready to give up her independence. “After this is all over, he’s going to be out of here! I’m kicking him out,” she jokes. As someone who values her autonomy, Loni isn’t planning on moving in with James anytime soon. “Marriage just isn’t something I see in my future,” she says. “I’m past the point where I want a family, and I love having my own space and independence.”
That said, Loni emphasizes that their relationship is built on mutual respect and understanding. “We both have our own businesses and lives, but we truly enjoy being together. That’s what matters most to us,” she concludes.
