Listen up, everyone. If you’ve ever wondered where Julia Roberts wants to plant her roots, it’s right here in San Francisco. The legendary actress, who has long adored the city’s sophistication and laid-back vibe, has officially purchased an $8.3 million estate in the exclusive Presidio Heights neighborhood. “Julia loves Malibu, sure, but she’s craving something different for her kids, who are growing up faster than she can blink,” shares a close friend. “She wants them to experience the energy and diversity of a city like San Francisco.”
Why San Francisco? A New Chapter for the Family
Julia, a mom of three—twins Hazel and Phinnaeus, 15, and Henry, 12—has always dreamed of escaping the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles. “In San Francisco, her kids aren’t just ‘movie star kids.’ They’re regular kids,” says the friend. “People don’t care who their mom is, and that’s exactly what Julia wants for them.”
At 52, Julia sees this move as a chance to try something fresh. “She’s always wanted to raise her children in a more diverse neighborhood,” explains the friend. “San Francisco’s rich culture, thriving arts scene, and easy access to nature make it the perfect fit. The city has it all—buzzing streets with endless energy and a sprawling park nearby where they can hike and explore.”

Her husband, Danny Moder, 51, is fully on board with the change, though he’ll miss Malibu. “It’s bittersweet because Danny loves the beach life they’ve built there, but he’s also tired of the Hollywood scene,” adds another source. “This is a new chapter for them, and even though they’re both working less these days, LA is still just an hour’s flight away.”
A Forever Home with Stunning Views
The family’s new five-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath home was constructed in 1907 and offers breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge. “This place is a true forever home,” says the friend. “Julia can picture herself growing old with Danny here. It’s a place where they can create lasting memories with their kids and watch them grow.”
