Kate Hudson’s Honest Take on Motherhood and Co-Parenting
When we think about celebrity moms, Kate Hudson often comes to mind. She's not just the star of films like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days but also a real-life mom navigating the ups and downs of raising three kids with three different fathers. During a heartfelt chat on Sunday TODAY, the actress gave us a glimpse into her world, sharing how she manages the chaos with grace and humor.
At 41, Kate Hudson isn't shy about the fact that parenting isn't always a walk in the park. “I’ve got multiple dads, I’ve got kids all over the place,” she joked during the interview, which aired on January 24. But beneath the laughter lies a deep commitment to her family. “The only expectations I really have that are really high on my life are with my kids and with family stuff. Other than that, it’s like, I just let it go,” she added, emphasizing the importance of flexibility in her life.

Juggling Life with Three Kids and Three Dads
Kate Hudson’s family is a testament to modern co-parenting. She shares her 17-year-old son, Ryder, with ex-husband Chris Robinson; her 9-year-old son, Bingham, with ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy; and her youngest, Rani Rose, who's just 2, with boyfriend Danny Fujikawa. It’s a balancing act that requires patience, understanding, and a lot of hard work. “I work my ass off, and then I walk away, and I hope for the best,” Kate said, highlighting her pragmatic approach to co-parenting.

Adapting to Life in Lockdown
Like so many of us, Kate Hudson has had to adjust to a new normal since the start of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020. Raising her growing brood under lockdown hasn’t been easy, but she’s learning to take it one day at a time. “I wanna be, like, ‘Yeah, it’s so great and … we’re figuring out,’ but the reality is that there are days that are great, and there are days that I have to remind myself to be grateful,” she admitted.
Even for someone as resilient as Kate, the challenges of lockdown have been overwhelming. “I never thought in a million years that I’d spend a year in one place,” she confessed. “And when you have so many kids, sometimes you have those moments where you’re hiding in your bathroom going, ‘Please, please, get me out of here!’” It’s a relatable sentiment that many parents can relate to, and it shows just how human Kate is beneath the Hollywood glitz.

A Mom Who Gives Herself Permission to Be Imperfect
Despite the challenges, Kate wouldn’t trade her role as a mom for anything. She’s quick to acknowledge her mistakes but equally proud of her achievements. “I’ve yelled at my kids too much, and I’ve also cursed in front of them, and I also haven’t shown up for things because I was out of town,” she told Women’s Health in February 2020. Yet, amidst the chaos, she finds moments of triumph. “But at the same time, I have days where I’m like, ‘I’m a f—king supermom’ … I’m cooking, cleaning, doing homework, changing diapers and I worked out.”
For Kate Hudson, motherhood is about doing the best she can, and that’s something she’s learning to embrace fully. “What I’ve learned — and what I’m learning — is that I’m doing the best I can,” she shared, reminding us all that being a great parent doesn’t mean being perfect. It means showing up, loving deeply, and growing alongside your children.
