Why Karina Kept Theo Under Wraps
Since Theo’s arrival in April 2020, Karina has been famously private about her son, including the identity of his father. During an Instagram Live session with fellow DWTS alum Anna Trebunskaya in May, Karina opened up about her reasons for keeping Theo out of the spotlight. “It’s not that I’m hiding him by any means,” she explained. “But in the Russian Orthodox religion, you’re not supposed to take the baby out and show it right away.”
Karina went on to explain that traditionally, Russian Orthodox families wait a month before introducing a newborn to the world. This period is meant to ensure the baby is strong and healthy before they’re shown off to friends and family. It’s a cultural practice that Karina clearly respects deeply, even as she navigates the world of social media and celebrity life.
Life as a New Mom
Becoming a mom for the first time has been a life-changing experience for Karina. Gone are the days of jet-setting around the world for dance competitions and performances. Now, her days revolve around Theo, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. “If I’m not changing him, I’m feeding him,” she joked during her chat with Anna. “And if I’m not feeding him, I’m changing him again.”
And let’s not forget about those loud baby farts! Karina laughed as she recounted holding Theo and being caught off guard by his noisy little toots. “The whole family looks at me, and I’m like, ‘It’s not me, it’s him!’” she said, clearly enjoying every moment of this new chapter in her life.
Despite the challenges of motherhood, Karina can already see Theo’s charm starting to shine through. “I think he’s already manipulating me,” she shared with a laugh. “He’ll cry, and I’ll pick him up, and then he’ll just smile at me like it was all an act.” Clearly, Theo has his mom wrapped around his little finger, and who could blame her?
