As the world continues to grapple with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, many parents have found themselves in uncharted territory. Halle Berry is no exception. With schools shutting down, she's had to step into the role of a homeschooling parent for her two children, Nahla and Maceo. But if you think it's all smooth sailing, think again. After spending a few weeks trying to keep her kids focused, Halle admits that it's been quite the challenge. "It’s a nightmare," she confessed, adding, "Getting them to concentrate is harder than I ever imagined."

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight on April 30, 2020, the 53-year-old Oscar-winning actress shared her struggles with homeschooling. "This is like a wash of a semester; they’re really just not learning anything, and it’s hard," she said. "I have a 6-year-old, and what I’ve learned is that when 6-year-olds see other 6-year-olds doing things, they follow suit. They sit and eat because there are 25 other kids doing it. They stay at their desks and color because there are 25 other ones doing it." Halle went on to explain that the absence of a classroom environment makes it incredibly difficult to keep her kids focused on their studies. "At home, there are not 25 other ones doing it. So, to get them to focus and realize they’re at home but yet they’re at school, it’s really been a challenge," she added.

Discovering the Silver Linings Amidst the Challenges

Despite the difficulties, Halle has discovered some unexpected joys in having her kids at home. For instance, she's noticed that her children are spending more time together, which is something she truly cherishes. "I have enjoyed having all this extra time with them," she said, gushing about her time with Maceo, whom she shares with ex-husband Olivier Martinez, and Nahla, with former boyfriend Gabriel Aubry. "We have been making good use of the time when they’re not in school. When I’m not cracking the whip for school, we do have a lot of family time, storytime, and bonding time that we don’t often get to have, so there is the silver lining," she added.
