It’s been quite a journey for Clea Shearer, the beloved co-founder of The Home Edit, who recently shared a candid update about her ongoing battle with cancer. In an emotional Instagram post, Clea revealed that she underwent her eighth surgery, shedding light on the challenges and uncertainties that lie ahead.
For those following Clea's story, her resilience and positivity have been nothing short of inspiring. However, this latest round of treatment came as an unexpected twist. “Two days ago, my doctor noticed a wound at my incision site that was open to my implant. He took one look at it and said, ‘what are you doing on Monday?’” Clea wrote. “My heart sank because I knew what was coming next. Time for another operation… And since it had to happen immediately, I wasn’t going to have time to mentally prepare.”
Reflecting on the Journey So Far
Back in November, Clea celebrated what she thought was her final surgery, marking what she hoped would be the end of her medical journey for a while. “Lucky number 7 was going to be it!” she joked. But life had other plans. Just two months later, she found herself back at the hospital, preparing for her eighth procedure. “The scary part about today’s surgery is that there’s a good chance it leads to my ninth,” she admitted. “I’ve been told to emotionally prepare myself that swapping my implant out might not work, in which case I’ll need a larger reconstruction that uses tissue from my latissimus dorsi muscle in my back.”

Clea, 42, remains determined to take things one step at a time. “I’m going to focus on getting through this surgery before I worry about needing the next one,” she explained. “The good news is that I’m a pro at this point—I can get into my robe, hair net, and yellow socks in record time. Even John [her husband] has a routine in the cafeteria. We are unfortunately, very good at this.”
Support Floods In
Clea’s heartfelt post resonated deeply with her fans, who rallied behind her in droves. “Wish you weren’t going through this and in awe that you continue to have the absolute most amazing perspective through it all. Your cheering section energy is with you,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “We are thinking of you and praying for you. You’re right, one surgery/step at a time. Get through this and the next piece will fall in place.”

Even fellow celebrities joined in to offer their support. HGTV’s Jenny Marrs commented, “I’m so, so sorry. Pausing right now to pray for you.”
A Glimpse Into the Day of Surgery
On her Instagram Stories, Clea shared a candid photo of herself sitting in her car en route to the hospital. “Heading to the hospital…lets do this,” she wrote. Later, she posted a snapshot of her feet as she prepared to be wheeled into the operating room. Hours later, she updated fans with a thumbs-up photo from recovery. “In recovery now and just ate 264 saltine crackers and peanut butter. The surgery was a success, so now I just have to hope the next few weeks go well so I can avoid another one,” she shared.
The following day, Clea continued to keep fans updated. She posted a photo of herself eating more saltine crackers, jokingly calling them the “breakfast of champions when you just need enough food in your system to take antibiotics and pain killers.”
Looking Back: Clea’s Cancer Diagnosis
Clea first disclosed her breast cancer diagnosis in April 2022, revealing that she had been diagnosed with stage 1 invasive mammary carcinoma. Since then, she has navigated her treatment with grace and transparency, inspiring countless others along the way.
