In a heartfelt message, the talented actor expressed his gratitude to all the loyal fans who helped secure another round of adventures for Watson on CBS.
“Hey, everyone! I just wanted to pop in for a second to say a huge thank you to all of you who tuned in and supported Watson. This show wouldn’t be where it is today without your love and dedication,” Morris, 56, said in a video he shared on his Instagram account on Thursday, March 27. “Our cast, crew, writers—every single person involved in this show—worked tirelessly to deliver the best possible entertainment for you all.”

But Morris wasn’t done there. He made sure to highlight the importance of the fans in making the renewal happen. “The studio gave us so much support, but none of this would have been possible without you, the fans. Your love and loyalty mean the world to us,” he continued. “We’re thrilled to bring you Watson season 2! We’re going to work harder than ever to make it even bigger, stronger, faster, and, most importantly, more entertaining. Get ready for another unforgettable year!”

Why 'Watson' Stands Out
Since its debut, Watson has captured the hearts of millions. The first episode alone drew in an impressive 18.7 million multi-platform viewers, making it CBS’ most-watched scripted episode of the 2024-25 TV season. This trend of success continued throughout the season, with each episode averaging 6.8 million total viewers (including Live+7 playback). This impressive performance ranked Watson seventh among the 14 dramas aired by CBS this season.
On Wednesday, March 26, CBS officially announced the renewal of Watson for a second season. The series will air during the 2025-2026 television season on the network and will also be available for streaming on Paramount+. Morris portrays Dr. John Watson, who, following the tragic death of his beloved friend and partner Sherlock Holmes, resumes his medical career at a clinic specializing in rare diseases. However, as the show suggests, his past as a detective isn’t ready to let him go just yet.

Besides Morris Chestnut, the show features a stellar cast, including Eve Harlow, Peter Mark Kendall, Inga Schlingmann, Ritchie Coster, and Rochelle Aytes. Morris, who also serves as an executive producer, spoke to VIBE about the complexity of his character. “Dr. Watson is more than just a doctor here; he’s a mentor, a teacher, and still very much a detective. I love that aspect of the show. It gives us a chance to explore different layers of his personality,” he explained.
“When people come into our world, which is our set, I want them to feel welcome and at home. Respect is key, and that’s something I carry with me both on and off-screen. It’s all about creating an environment where everyone feels valued,” Morris added, emphasizing the importance of fostering a positive atmosphere on set.
What's Next for 'Watson'?
While the exact premiere date for season 2 hasn’t been announced, fans can look forward to the next episode of Watson airing on March 30 at 9 p.m. ET. Titled “A Variant of Unknown Significance,” this episode will feature a special cameo by Whoopie Van Raam. With the renewal of Watson, CBS continues to expand its lineup, which now includes Tracker, Fire Country, NCIS, NCIS: Origins, NCIS: Sydney, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Elsbeth, Hollywood Squares, Matlock, Survivor, The Amazing Race, and FBI.
