Even though 9-1-1: Lone Star takes place in the heart of Texas, the show is actually filmed in Los Angeles. But that suits Rob Lowe just fine. The 56-year-old actor gets to return home to his wife of nearly three decades, Sheryl, every night. In a candid moment, Rob opens up about his priorities. "Day in and day out, I choose to be with my wife," he shares. "I know I'll never find anyone I love more, who's sexier, or a better mother than her. She's truly one of a kind."
A Journey Through Hollywood's Golden Years
Back in the 1980s, Rob was the epitome of a young, carefree Hollywood star, starring in iconic films like St. Elmo’s Fire and About Last Night. Those days were filled with late-night parties and the carefree lifestyle of a confirmed bachelor. "People always thought I'd end up like Warren Beatty in Shampoo—living the playboy life forever," Rob recalls with a laugh. "But as it turns out, I was one of the first among my peers to settle down, get married, and start a family. That guy was always inside me; I just needed the right circumstances to let him out."
The Turning Point
Rob first crossed paths with Sheryl, now 59, on a blind date arranged by his Brat Pack buddy Emilio Estevez back in 1983. While nothing came of it at the time, fate had other plans. A few years later, Sheryl joined the crew of Rob's 1990 film Bad Influence as the makeup artist. This time, their connection deepened, and they began dating. Rob reflects on this period as a pivotal moment in his life. "Meeting Sheryl made me reevaluate how I was living. It inspired me to get sober and change my life. That decision led me to everything I have now—my career, my family, and the love of my life," he says.

A Life of Sobriety and Success
Today, Rob has been sober for an impressive 30 years. Alongside his thriving acting career, he cherishes his long-term partnership with Sheryl and the joy of raising their two sons, Matthew, 27, and John, 25. "The thing I'm most proud of in my life is those two incredible men," Rob beams with pride. "They're the best part of me, and I couldn't have done it without Sheryl's support."
As their sons have grown and moved out, Rob and Sheryl have embraced the next chapter of their lives. "Empty nesting has its perks," Rob jokes. "We now have more time together, and I couldn't be happier. I married my best friend—someone who's gorgeous, smart, funny, and powerful. If someone had told me all those years ago what we'd accomplish together, I wouldn't have believed it. But here we are, and I wouldn't trade it for anything."
