Hey there, friends! If you’re a fan of The View, you might’ve noticed something a little different during the first week of February 2025. Fans were left scratching their heads, wondering where Joy could be. Well, Closer has all the juicy details for you!
What Happened to Joy Behar on 'The View'?
Joy Behar started off strong on Monday, February 3, 2025, joining her fellow cohosts on The View. But then she vanished from the next three episodes, leaving fans wondering what was up. Finally, on Thursday, February 6, Whoopi dropped a little hint about her absence.
Whoopi casually mentioned, “Joy is not here. We wish her a happy opening night. It’s tonight.” But that’s all she said! No further explanation, leaving everyone intrigued. Let’s dive deeper into what was really going on.

Did Joy Behar Explain Her Absence on 'The View'?
Now here’s the scoop: Joy didn’t personally address her absence on the show, but it turns out she was busy with something big! Her off-Broadway play, My First Ex-Husband, premiered on February 6, 2024. So, Joy was off celebrating this huge milestone instead of sitting at the Hot Topics table.
The official Instagram account for the play posted a video featuring Joy, who wrote the stage play. The caption read, “It’s opening night of MY FIRST EX-HUSBAND. We are so thrilled to celebrate these stories tonight with the cast and company! Congrats to everyone at the MMAC Theater.”
In the video, Joy shared the inspiration behind the play. “I’ve always been fascinated by why people get married and why they get divorced. This is such an interesting subject for me,” she explained. “I’ve been through it myself—I was married to Joseph Behar for 17 years, so I have some firsthand experience in this area.”
And here’s a fun tidbit: Joy loves yard sales, especially those hosted by divorced couples. “The best yard sales are always when people are divorced because they’ll just give you everything,” she joked. “‘Take it. I don’t want it. I don’t want to have anything to do with that piece of furniture.’”
Joy wrapped up by recalling a funny moment when she saw a book titled How to Get a Divorce at a house. “And I said, ‘Bingo.’ That was it,” she laughed.
According to the play’s website, Joy will be performing alongside Susie Essman, Tovah Feldshuh, and Adrienne C. Moore until February 23, 2025. The play is described as “a bold and heartfelt adaptation of true stories by the legendary Joy Behar.” With her signature wit and no-holds-barred humor, it explores the often messy and hilarious truths about love, sex, and relationships.

Who Filled In for Joy Behar on 'The View'?
Guess who stepped in while Joy was away? None other than former The View host Star Jones! Star returned to the Hot Topics table on Wednesday, February 5, bringing her signature charm and wit back to the show.
Whoopi joked during the episode’s introduction, “Do not try to adjust your television set! Joy is not here today. I know, I know! But, look! One of the originals, one of the OGs, the fabulous Star Jones! Welcome back!”
Star was thrilled to be back, and she even took the opportunity to discuss important health practices for women during National Go Red Month. She shared, “I’ve been a national volunteer for 14 years for [American Heart Association] because I had open heart surgery 14 years ago. And talk about being connected at the heart, literally within the same 6 months, Barbara Walters had open heart surgery for an aortic valve malfunction also, and so we are connected in that way.”
She continued, “But I’m a survivor and a thriver because my life has obviously improved, but I just think to myself in 14 years it’s still the number one killer of Americans, the number one killer of Black Americans, the number one killer of women.”
