Kate Reflects on Her Family Legacy
During a heartfelt conversation on BBC Radio 2, the 45-year-old actress reminisced about a time when she recognized the same spark in her own famous mother, Goldie Hawn. Kate revealed that she could see the stardom in Goldie even as a kid, and now, she’s noticing a similar glow in her own son.
Kate's Confidence in Ryder's Potential
Speaking with pride, the star of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days said, “And I can see it in my son.” Kate went on to explain, “Now, you know when your kid has that. He doesn’t know it yet, but I do, and I think my parents [Bill Hudson and Goldie] kind of have the same instinct.”

Kate couldn’t help but gush about her eldest son, who she believes has “got it.” She then listed his many talents, emphasizing his unique qualities. “It’s so crazy to hear that because my son is literally in performing arts school right now. He’s 21. Ah! Well, he’ll be fine,” she continued. “Because he’s so funny and he’s so smart, he’s very self-possessed and, and he’s an amazing person.”
Kate's Growing Family
Kate welcomed Ryder into the world on January 7, 2004, with her ex-husband Chris Robinson. The Raising Helen star also gave birth to her son Bingham “Bing” Bellamy, 13, with former partner Matt Bellamy on July 9, 2011. In addition, Kate and her fiancé Danny Fujikawa proudly welcomed their daughter Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa, 6, on October 2, 2018.
During the BBC Radio 2 chat, Kate expressed her hope for Ryder’s future. “And I just know that, you know, I think our family does a really good job of, like – kids have a hard time thinking that they have to do something so significant, which means to them being seen,” she shared. “But like, significance is, like, if you’re happy putting what you’re putting out in the world, you know? And I hope that – I think he’s got that, I think he’s going to be alright.”

The Glass Onion star often expresses admiration for her son and the man he’s becoming. She previously admitted that she’s not only okay with Ryder growing up but is excited about the journey ahead. “People kind of go, ‘I want to freeze [my kids] when they’re little.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t, actually.’ I’m having a blast,” Kate said during a 2019 appearance on the Rachael Ray Show. “I can’t wait to go to a bar with my kid – is that weird? Ryder shares a strong bond with his younger brother Bing, who looks up to him. In fact, Kate shared rare photos of Bing via Instagram in June 2024, while on vacation with her family. In the photo, Bing gazed into the golden hour as a patch of sunlight highlighted his face, drawing comparisons to the late River Phoenix from fans.
