Ree Drummond, the beloved star of Pioneer Woman, has expanded her already bustling family! In an exciting announcement, Ree introduced her foster son, Jamar, nearly two years after he joined their household. This heartwarming revelation came through an excerpt from her latest book, Frontier Follies. It's a collection of essays that give readers a deeper look into her world, and this particular story is one of love, growth, and acceptance.
Ree, now 51, took to her blog to share the joyous news with her fans. "Let me take this opportunity to introduce you all to my incredible, brilliant, and absolutely wonderful bonus kid, Jamar," she wrote warmly. "After a year and a half of living under our roof, Jamar is now an integral part of our chaotic but loving family. His presence has brought so much light and laughter into all of our lives."
How Jamar Joined the Drummond Family
Ree shared a detailed account of how Jamar, now 18, came into their lives. It all started when her husband, Ladd Drummond, met Jamar during high school football practice one summer. "My boys, Bryce and Todd, knew him too," she explained, referring to her sons. Despite fostering not being something they had ever actively pursued, the situation with Jamar felt like something they couldn’t ignore. "His circumstances presented themselves in a way that made it impossible to turn away," she wrote. "Before we knew it, all six-foot-five inches of him showed up at our house one afternoon, bag in hand, ready to move in."

Since mid-2019, Jamar has been a part of the Drummond household. However, Ree waited until now to officially introduce him as her foster son due to the strict rules in Oklahoma regarding posting about foster children on social media. "I've always felt very protective of Jamar and wanted his story to be his own," she admitted. "Now that he’s 18, the state’s agency restrictions no longer apply, and Jamar himself expressed that he’s tired of feeling like we’re trying to hide him from the world."
A Bright Future for Jamar
Ree, who also shares daughters Alex, 23, and Paige, 21, with her cattle rancher husband, couldn't be prouder of Jamar and the journey he's on. "I can’t wait to see where life takes him," she expressed enthusiastically. "Jamar is larger than life, with a laugh that can light up any room. Not only is he extremely smart, but he's also overcome some significant challenges in his life. Through sheer determination, he's excelled in football and has already received several college offers, with more surely on the way!"
