It’s official: CBS is saying farewell to another long-running favorite. Just months after saying goodbye to Blue Bloods, the network has announced that The Neighborhood will wrap up its story with an eighth and final season. This comes as a bittersweet moment for fans who’ve grown attached to the hilarious and heartfelt show over the years.
Why The Neighborhood’s Final Season is Special
According to Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, The Neighborhood has consistently delivered "levity, laughter, and poignant storylines" during its impressive seven-season run. Speaking to Deadline, Reisenbach shared her admiration for the show's incredible cast and creative team, led by the legendary Cedric the Entertainer. She emphasized that the series has been a "strong ratings performer" and one of the top comedies on television. "We believe the show’s loyal fans deserve a proper farewell season full of the trademark humor and heartfelt moments that are synonymous with the series," she added.
A Cast to Remember
Of course, no tribute to The Neighborhood would be complete without mentioning the talented ensemble cast who brought the show to life. Alongside Cedric, the show stars Tichina Arnold, Sheaun McKinney, Marcel Spears, Hank Greenspan, and Skye Townsend. Together, they’ve created a world that resonates with viewers through its authentic portrayals of friendship, family, and community.

The final season of The Neighborhood is set to premiere during the 2025-2026 broadcast season. Right now, fans can still enjoy the current seventh season airing on CBS. Interestingly, the show was notably absent from CBS’ renewal list last month, sparking speculation about its future. Now we know the truth—it's time to say goodbye.
A New Beginning Amid Farewells
But don’t worry, fans! There’s some good news amidst the goodbye. The seventh season finale will serve as a "backdoor pilot" for a potential spinoff, following Marty and Malcolm as they relocate to Venice. That’s right—there’s a chance to keep the Neighborhood magic alive in a fresh setting.
And that’s not all! Another spinoff titled Crutch, starring comedy icon Tracy Morgan, is also in development at Paramount+. Announced in a May 2024 press release, the series centers on Francois ‘Frank’ Crutchfield, or ‘Crutch’ to his friends—a widower from Harlem whose plans for an empty nest are disrupted when his adult children and grandchildren move back home. Sounds like classic Tracy Morgan territory!

Cedric the Entertainer is thrilled about expanding the The Neighborhood universe with this new project. "I’m excited to be producing a show with the legendary comedian Tracy Morgan," Cedric said. "Crutch is the close cousin to my character, Calvin Butler, and you’ll find plenty of similarities between them. Tracy plays Crutch, a no-nonsense widowed father dealing with his grown kids and grandkids moving back home. Let’s just say there will be plenty of comedic complications!"
Tracy Morgan Joins the Fun
Tracy Morgan also chimed in after the spinoff news was confirmed by CBS. "Crutch will navigate the ups and downs of having his kids and grandkids back under one roof. And if I’m doing it, you know there will be plenty of laughs along the way," Tracy joked. "I’m so happy to be working with my brother Cedric The Entertainer, Owen Smith, and the incredible team we’ve assembled. Get ready for your new favorite show!"
Jeff Grossman, EVP of Programming at Paramount Streaming, echoed the excitement. "Our subscribers love CBS’ The Neighborhood, so bringing CRUTCH to Paramount+ feels like a natural fit," he said. "We can’t wait to see what the immense talents behind CRUTCH—Tracy Morgan, Cedric The Entertainer, and Owen Smith—will bring to this new series."
