Hey there, music lovers! British rock legend Rod Stewart had to pull the plug on a concert scheduled for March 18 because of a health hiccup. This isn’t the first time Rod’s had to deal with unexpected health challenges, but this one hit just hours before he was set to take the stage. In a heartfelt Instagram post, the multi-platinum artist apologized to his fans and gave them the inside scoop on why he couldn’t perform. Stick around to learn more about what’s going on with Rod and his road to recovery.
Why Did Rod Stewart Cancel His Show?
So, here's the deal: Rod was all set to rock the stage at A Day on the Green alongside Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens at Mt. Duneed Estate in Geelong, Australia. Fans were pumped for this outdoor concert, which was part of Rod’s Australian tour. But, just hours before showtime, the news dropped that Rod wouldn’t be performing. What happened? Well, Rod shared the details in an Instagram post that left fans both surprised and concerned.
In his message to fans, Rod wrote, “Hello, my friends. I’m truly bummed out that I have to let down the fans who bought tickets to A Day on the Green. This morning, I found out I’ve got a viral infection, and my throat is too raw to sing. It’s frustrating, but I’m only human, and sometimes these things happen. My main goal is to get back on stage and give you the show you deserve.”

Rod didn’t stop there. In an Instagram Story posted on March 19, he gave fans an update, saying the rest of his tour dates were still on. He mentioned it was just a minor setback caused by strep throat. "I’m feeling much better now and looking forward to the rest of the tour," Rod said. His next stop is at the AEC Arena in Adelaide on March 21. As of now, it’s unclear if he’ll reschedule the Geelong show.
After wrapping up his Australian gigs, Rod’s heading to New Zealand in April, then off to Mexico, Las Vegas, Ireland, and Spain. He’ll wrap the tour with some U.S. shows in early September. It’s been a long road for Rod, but he’s showing true grit and determination to keep going despite the challenges.
Rod Stewart’s Health Journey: A Look Back
Now, let’s take a quick trip down memory lane. Rod’s had his fair share of health battles over the years. Back in 2000, doctors found a lump in his thyroid, leading to a diagnosis of thyroid cancer. The next day, Rod underwent surgery to remove the cancer. Unfortunately, the procedure left him without his voice for a while, something that terrified him as a singer.
In a candid moment during a November 2021 appearance on Loose Women, Rod opened up about the experience. "It wasn’t like I fought cancer for months and months. It was pretty straightforward to get rid of, but losing my voice was brutal. I couldn’t sing a note, and that was scary," he admitted.
But Rod didn’t stop there. After working tirelessly to regain his voice, he faced another challenge in 2016 when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. For three years, he kept it under wraps, quietly battling the disease. In 2019, he made the announcement at a fundraiser event. "I thought it was time to share this with everyone. I’m in the clear now, thanks to early detection and regular testing," Rod told the crowd.
