Let’s face it, the Starsiak family tree is a little complicated. But one thing’s crystal clear—Good Bones fans absolutely adore Mina Starsiak Hawk’s brother, Tad Starsiak. When the show wrapped up its eighth season, leaving behind some lingering family drama, Tad stepped into the spotlight to share what's next for him. And honestly, his story is just as fascinating as the homes he helped renovate.
Who Exactly Is Tad Starsiak?
Since the first episode of Good Bones aired back in 2016, viewers have been introduced to a colorful cast of characters within Mina’s blended family. Tad, Mina’s half-brother, shares the same father, Casey Starsiak. Tragically, Tad lost his biological mother, Cheryl, at a young age. But life has a way of bringing the right people into your orbit. Enter Karen E. Laine, Mina’s mom, who stepped in and raised Tad as her own. That’s right, Karen not only became Mina’s mom but also filled the void for Tad, creating a family bond that transcends bloodlines.
Tad has nothing but love and appreciation for Karen. In a heartfelt interview with HGTV back in May 2018, he opened up about her unwavering support. "When I was going through that rough time, every day I woke up and she was there for me," Tad shared. "It’s great having her as a teacher and as another mom." This kind of emotional depth and gratitude is what makes Tad such a beloved figure among fans.

Throughout the series, Tad wasn't just a passive participant. He was a hands-on helper, diving into home renovations and demolitions with the same passion and energy as his siblings. But that’s not all—he’s also the proud owner of a clothing company called Love Heals, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit alongside his love for construction.

What’s Next for Tad Starsiak?
In an emotional episode of her podcast, “Mina AF,” Mina announced that Good Bones was concluding after its eighth season. A few weeks later, she revealed that tensions within the family had reached a breaking point. “We all put our big kid pants on and pretend to be nice,” Mina explained. “Then we go back to our corners of the universe and talk s–t about each other. My mom and I aren’t in a great place. My brother Tad and I aren’t in a great place. My brother William and I are in a kind of nonexistent place. It’s complicated without even being complicated. We don’t really engage much, and the last engagement wasn’t super positive, and that was maybe a year ago.”
While Tad didn’t immediately address the rift, he did take a moment to reflect on the end of Good Bones. In a poignant Instagram post from July 2023, he wrote, “It’s crazy that we have been doing Good Bones for eight seasons. So much life has happened between when we started and now, and it’s almost been too fast-paced to really see all the growth. For all the Good Bones fans, I think you’re going to see a ton of growth from everyone. I think it might very well be our best season yet. So as always, thank you all for the love you’ve shown these past eight years for us on Good Bones. The opportunities have been life-changing.”
Is Tad Starsiak Settling Down?
With the final episodes of Good Bones behind him, Tad has continued his journey in the world of home improvement. As a general contractor and realtor, he recently moved into his “dream home” in the Bates-Hendricks neighborhood of Indianapolis. This home, by the way, was featured during the series finale of Good Bones. And if you're wondering about his personal life, Tad is currently engaged to Anna Spiars, marking another exciting chapter in his life.

Mina touched on her strained relationship with Tad during another episode of her podcast, revealing a heated exchange via text. “My brother Tad said some really awful stuff to me, and I’m sure he would say that I’ve said some awful stuff to him too,” she admitted. “But the most recent stuff he said to me, he can’t say it’s not what he said. He can’t say I misunderstood. It’s in text, and it’s black and white, and that was kind of my final straw there.”
