Mina Starsiak Hawk Fires Back At Critics Amid Family Drama

After the series finale of her hit HGTV show, Good Bones, Mina Starsiak Hawk had something to say to her critics. Life after the spotlight can be tough, but Mina's not backing down. She took to Instagram Stories on October 18 to share her thoughts about the negativity swirling around her.

"Some of y'all might have some strong feelings about me right now. But here's the thing—time has a way of clearing things up," Mina wrote. "What seems true today might not be tomorrow. Before you go throwing shade my way, consider this: you probably don't know the full story. What you think you know about the 'situation' might not even be close to the truth. So, let's all take a deep breath, be kind, and be patient with each other."

Mina's Family Drama Heats Up

Right now, Mina finds herself in the middle of a family drama involving her mom, Karen E. Laine, and her brother, Tad Starsiak. The conflict bubbled to the surface during an episode of her podcast, Mina AF, on August 28. Since then, tensions have only escalated as each family member navigates new career paths.

Karen has stayed quiet about the strained relationship with her daughter. But she did make an effort to mend fences by reaching out to Mina via text.

"I got a text from my mom this morning suggesting maybe we should talk," Mina told her podcast listeners on October 10. "We haven't spoken in a long time. It was early in the morning, and I just didn't know how to respond. It caught me off guard."

Despite the outreach, Mina hasn't revealed whether she replied to Karen's message. This text came on the heels of a tough decision Mina made—choosing not to invite her mom to her son Jack's 5th birthday party.

"Go ahead and judge me for not inviting my mom to Jack's birthday party. You can dislike me for it. You can think I'm the problem, which, let's be honest, I probably am part of the problem. But I'm working on it," Mina shared on her podcast back on September 18.

Behind the Scenes of Good Bones

The curtain came down on season 8 of Good Bones on October 17. In the final episode, Mina's brother Tad popped the question to his partner, Anna Spiars. While it appeared that everything was hunky-dory on screen, the reality behind the scenes painted a different picture.

During the filming of season 8, Mina and Karen had a major blowout during a demo scene. It was intense, to say the least.

"Family business is already challenging enough on its own," Mina explained to People in September. "People see my mom and me on the show as the ultimate best friends, but that's not the full story. While many viewers might aspire to that kind of relationship, the truth is, my mom and I have had a rocky relationship since I was a kid. It's complicated, and that's okay."
