Let’s face it—fans of Blue Bloods are feeling all the emotions right now. With the series finale approaching, Donnie Wahlberg, who plays the beloved Danny Reagan, has been dropping hints about what might come next. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Donnie opened up about the emotional rollercoaster that is the end of this iconic show—but also shared some hope for the future.
Donnie Wahlberg Shares a Bittersweet Message
On December 11, Donnie took to Instagram to share his thoughts ahead of the final episode of Blue Bloods. In a candid caption, he expressed gratitude for the incredible journey the show has taken over the past 14 years. "Only one #BlueBloods Friday left," he wrote. "Hard to believe we’ve come to the finale, but then it’s hard to believe that we were fortunate enough to be part of something so special for the last fourteen years!"
Donnie went on to acknowledge the wave of emotions that fans are likely experiencing. "Lots of emotion swirling, as I’m sure they are for all of you loyal fans and followers of this show," he continued. "I say farewell (for now) with no regrets—only gratitude! Let’s celebrate the journey together, one last time, this Friday."

A Hint at What's Next?
This isn’t the first time Donnie has hinted at a possible continuation of the Blue Bloods universe. Fans have been speculating about spinoffs or even a movie since CBS announced that season 14 would be the last. Donnie seems to be on board with the idea, as evidenced by his recent interactions on social media.
On December 6, Donnie shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) ahead of the penultimate episode. "Only two #BlueBloods episodes left—the first of those two begins right now! Let’s get to it!" he wrote. One fan replied, "Thank goodness for reruns," to which Donnie responded, "True. Or even spinoffs." Another fan suggested a Blue Bloods movie with sequels, prompting Donnie to say, "I like that plan."
Fans Want More Danny Reagan
Many fans have expressed their desire to see Donnie reprise his role as Danny Reagan in a spinoff. While the series finale hasn’t aired yet, it’s still too early for CBS to confirm any plans for the future of the franchise. However, CBS Studios President David Stapf has acknowledged the possibility, telling Deadline in July, "We don’t have anything that’s going to be in development soon, but it’s a brand, a title, and a show that is beloved. We’ve got to get it right, so we’re taking our time and trying to figure it out. What is the next iteration of Blue Bloods? We have a whole season to go where we intend to celebrate it all season long as to how good that show is, so there’s still time for us to figure that out."
Tom Selleck Weighs In
Leading man Tom Selleck, who plays Commissioner Frank Reagan, also chimed in on the spinoff conversation. In a recent interview with Parade, Tom expressed openness to continuing the franchise—but only under certain conditions. "I’m open to suggestions because I love Frank Reagan, but nobody’s really asked," he said. "I don’t see him retiring and going off somewhere. If he goes off to a small town, I’d rather do more Jesse Stone movies."

For now, fans will have to wait and see what the future holds for the Reagan family. One thing is for sure—the legacy of Blue Bloods will live on, whether through reruns, spinoffs, or a potential movie. As Donnie Wahlberg so aptly put it, this might not be goodbye forever—just "farewell (for now)."
