In an emotional Instagram video posted in August 2023, Chloe Lattanzi addressed her 142,000 followers, sharing her deeply personal struggles following the passing of her beloved mother, Olivia Newton-John. Olivia lost her battle with breast cancer in August 2022 after a five-year fight, and Chloe has been navigating life without her ever since.
“I felt like I needed to create this video,” Chloe began, speaking candidly to her audience. Dressed casually in a bright lime green tank top, she started by apologizing to anyone she may have unintentionally hurt or ignored during this tough period. She then went on to describe her experience, revealing challenges such as "extreme memory loss." Chloe admitted that some days, even getting out of bed felt overwhelming. Her sincerity was evident as she revealed, “Since my mom’s passing and the year and a half she spent battling cancer, I haven’t really been okay.”
A Mother-Daughter Bond Like No Other
Given the incredibly close bond Chloe shared with her mom, it’s no wonder she’s finding it hard to move forward. Olivia and Chloe were more than just mother and daughter; they were best friends. Chloe, Olivia’s daughter with her first husband Matt Lattanzi, recently expressed how "half of my heart is missing" since her mom's passing. Their relationship was nothing short of extraordinary.

Back in 2021, Chloe and Olivia sat down for a heartfelt interview with Life & Style, one of the last before Olivia’s passing at age 73. During the conversation, Chloe opened up about the unwavering support her mother provided, even during her own struggles with mental health and substance abuse. “She has always believed in me,” Chloe shared, her voice filled with gratitude. “She reinforced her belief in me when I needed it most.”
Olivia’s Perspective on Their Relationship
Olivia, too, was proud of their evolving relationship. “Now that Chloe is an adult, our bond has grown even stronger,” Olivia said fondly. “We can discuss things as equals now, which is different from being a mother to a teenage daughter. Our relationship has matured, and we have amazing times together.”
The two spent much of the COVID-19 pandemic together, often collaborating on music projects. “We inspire each other,” Chloe reflected. It was clear their shared passion for music and creativity only deepened their connection.

Finding Strength Through Vulnerability
Without her mom’s guiding presence, Chloe understandably feels lost. But in her vulnerability, she’s showing incredible strength. Recognizing the importance of self-care, Chloe acknowledged that she’s been neglecting herself. “Real talk. In order to take care of others, you must first take care of yourself,” she wrote in the Instagram post. “This is a universal truth, a universal law.”

Chloe plans to step back from the public eye temporarily, though she’ll still honor her mom by hosting Olivia’s annual Walk for Wellness on October 8 in Melbourne, Australia. “I’m going to disappear for about three weeks, just to honor my mind, body, and spirit,” Chloe explained. “Because I’m starting to develop some health issues in my mind and body. In the spirit of my mom and the Wellness Walk, I’m going to take this time to focus on myself so I can be fully present for everyone else.”
