There’s no denying that Mina Starsiak Hawk, the star of HGTV’s Good Bones, is a candid and open book when it comes to discussing her plastic surgery journey. Despite her transparency, she admitted during a recent podcast appearance that some of the criticism she’s faced has really gotten under her skin.
“You know what? Just today, when I talk about my plastic surgery, I feel this weird sense of shame,” said Mina, 39, during an appearance on the “Sex After” podcast hosted by Amy Marcs. It’s a sentiment that many people can relate to, especially in today’s world where body image is often scrutinized under a microscope.
Mina, who underwent what’s commonly referred to as a “mommy makeover” back in December 2020, revealed that she had a tummy tuck, liposuction, and breast enhancement after welcoming her second child, Charlotte, into the world. But the journey hasn’t been without its emotional ups and downs.

“Even now, there are still those lingering thoughts in my head,” Mina shared candidly. “Like, ‘Yeah, not everyone can afford this.’ Or, ‘Why couldn’t I just be happy with how I looked before?’ But honestly, those feelings don’t stick around as long as they used to. They come and go, but they’re definitely still there from time to time.”
Why Mina Decided on a Butt Lift
In November 2023, Mina opened up about her decision to gradually undergo a butt lift by opting for fillers instead of surgery. This decision came after she lost 20 pounds through intense workouts at the gym alongside her fitness trainer husband, Steve Hawk. Losing weight, while beneficial in many ways, left her feeling like her body needed a little extra help in certain areas.
“I think continuing to talk about it and even using terms like ‘mommy makeover’ helps normalize it,” Mina reflected. “You’ve earned it if you’ve gone through the hard work of having kids. But let’s be real—if someone just wants these procedures without having kids, that’s okay too. It’s all about feeling good in your own skin, whether you’ve earned it or not.”
However, Mina confessed that she doesn’t actually like referring to her surgeries as a “mommy makeover.”

“Calling it a ‘mommy makeover’ kind of softens the blow for people,” Mina explained. “It’s almost like they’re more accepting if I’ve been a mom. But honestly, I go back and forth in my head about whether I should even label it that way. It’s a constant mental battle for me.”
Addressing Her Eyebrow Lift
On top of everything else, Mina also recently underwent a blepharoplasty, commonly known as an eyebrow lift. While some might see this as purely cosmetic, Mina emphasized that it was more of a necessity for her.

“There comes a point where these kinds of procedures become medically necessary,” she said during an episode of her podcast, “Mina AF” in November 2023. “In my case, it wasn’t exactly that. My right eye had so much extra skin that I couldn’t even see my eyelid anymore. It was swollen and had been bothering me for three whole years. I just couldn’t take it anymore—it was driving me crazy.”
