As the annual Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey approaches, Princess Kate Middleton took a moment to share her thoughts on the essence of the holiday season. In a heartfelt note, she emphasized the importance of slowing down and reflecting on the deeper connections that bind us all. “The holidays offer an incredible opportunity to pause and focus on what truly matters,” she wrote. “When we step away from the daily grind, we create space to live with an open heart, embracing love, kindness, and forgiveness—qualities that define the Christmas spirit.”
Three months after announcing the completion of her chemotherapy, Kate, 42, is deeply grateful to return to her public life. Earlier this December, she joined Prince William in welcoming the Emir of Qatar and his wife to England. This marks a significant turning point for Kate, who has overcome so much over the past year. “It’s a truly special time for Kate,” a close friend revealed exclusively to Closer. “She vividly remembers how she felt last Christmas and realizes just how far she’s come. It’s been a complete turnaround.”
With the holidays just around the corner, Kate has enlisted the help of her three children—George, 11, Charlotte, 9, and Louis, 6—to participate in some of her cherished seasonal traditions. “Kate and the kids will be busy making treats for their neighbors, something they’ve always done,” the friend shared. “But this year, Kate will personally hand-deliver them, which is a big deal. Some of her baked goodies will also be shared with staff, family, and close friends.”

Since joining the royal family in 2011, Kate has enthusiastically dedicated herself to charitable work. Resuming her public duties and supporting her causes after a period away for cancer treatment has given her a renewed sense of purpose. “Kate now views her role as a service to the people with even greater clarity,” the friend explained. “She’s quietly taking on new initiatives without seeking the spotlight. Whether it’s involving her children in charitable projects or keeping a low profile, her focus remains on helping others rather than drawing attention to herself.”
A Season of Celebration and Reflection
Family Traditions at Sandringham
The young royal family will participate in the traditional church service and Christmas lunch alongside the senior royals at Sandringham House, King Charles III’s countryside retreat, on December 25. However, they’ll also enjoy some downtime at home. “They’ll spend the night at Anmer Hall so the kids can wake up in their own beds on Christmas morning before heading the short distance to Sandringham,” the friend detailed.
Kate anticipates this year’s walk to St. Mary Magdalene Church for the annual service to be particularly poignant. “The public procession to church evokes strong emotions because of the incredible support she’s received during her health challenges,” the friend explained. After the service, the family will gather for a traditional feast and exchange thoughtful gifts. “Their presents are always modest—things like socks featuring Charles’ beloved dogs. It’s all about thoughtfulness and humor,” the friend added.

On Boxing Day, the day after Christmas, Kate and her family will visit her parents and siblings, Pippa and James, along with their families. “Kate makes a conscious effort to support William during the holidays, knowing how much he misses his mom—and now his brother,” the friend shared. “She’s there for him in every way possible.”
Kate’s greatest hope is that her loved ones will continue to celebrate many more Christmases together. As the friend put it, “She’ll never take another holiday season with her family for granted again.”
