In a heartfelt Instagram post on January 14, LeAnn Rimes opened up about her recent health challenge, sharing details of her battle with precancerous cells. The country music star underwent surgery to remove these cells after an abnormal pap smear flagged some concerning results. Let's dive deeper into her inspiring story and the message she’s sending to women everywhere.
LeAnn's January Journey: From Struggles to Strength
LeAnn Rimes, known for her powerful voice and emotional performances, began her Instagram post by reflecting on how January has historically been a tough month for her. "January is usually a challenging month for me," she wrote. Over the past few years, she's faced dental surgeries and dealt with a vocal hemorrhage, which left her feeling pretty down. But this January, she shared, was different. Instead of focusing on the difficulties, she found joy and ease in her life. However, she didn’t shy away from sharing that she recently underwent a minor surgery. Her decision to share her experience stemmed from a desire to encourage others to prioritize their health by staying on top of annual screenings. "This is such an important reminder to catch changes early on within our bodies," she emphasized.
Living with Abnormal Pap Smears: LeAnn's Long-Term Battle
At just 41 years old, LeAnn revealed that she has been dealing with abnormal pap smears since she was 17. Over the years, doctors have closely monitored what she described as "cellular changes" during each of her annual exams. Her recent colposcopy, a follow-up test after an abnormal pap smear, revealed high-grade cervical dysplasia, a condition where precancerous cells are present. LeAnn explained, "After consulting with my doctor, we decided that a LEEP procedure would be the best option to remove these abnormal cells." For those unfamiliar, a LEEP procedure involves using a thin wire loop to remove abnormal tissue. LeAnn took control of her comfort during the procedure, opting to be under anesthesia. She explained, "I've been through enough trauma in my life already, so I chose to be out and comfortable. Advocating for your mental wellness and comfort is so important, and I highly recommend it!"

LeAnn, who won The Masked Singer and is married to Eddie Cibrian, has always been open about her health challenges. Now, she’s urging women to book their annual exams. "Early stages of cervical cancer often don’t show symptoms, making annual screenings and early detection crucial," she explained. Her message goes beyond just health awareness; she’s advocating for open conversations around women’s wellness. "The more we share and talk about these topics, the more we can remove the stigma and empower ourselves to take the best care of our bodies," she concluded.
Beyond Cervical Health: LeAnn's Battle with Psoriasis
LeAnn hasn’t shied away from discussing other health issues she’s faced. In October 2020, she shared a nude photo to talk about her lifelong battle with psoriasis, a condition she's lived with since childhood. "Music has been my gift, and why I’m here," she said in an interview with Glamour. "But I want to give a voice to these other parts of me. I want to speak for what so many others are going through. This is my time to be unapologetically honest about psoriasis and what it really looks like." Her candidness continues to inspire countless fans and followers.
