So, Karen E. Laine’s life has been a whirlwind since she and her daughter Mina Starsiak Hawk started their journey on "Good Bones." It’s like a rollercoaster ride, and now, after filming the show’s series finale, Karen’s made some changes to her real estate portfolio. The big question everyone’s asking is, what happened to her beloved Indiana home?

What’s the Deal With Karen E. Laine’s Indiana Home?

Alright, let’s dive into the drama. Karen and Mina didn’t exactly end "Good Bones" on the best of terms. There were fights on set during the filming of season 8, and they even stopped talking to each other for a while. That’s right, folks—this mother-daughter duo went from renovating homes together to not even speaking. Naturally, this has left everyone wondering where Karen is living these days.

When "Good Bones" first hit the airwaves, Karen and Mina revealed they lived right next door to each other in Indianapolis’s Fountain Square neighborhood. They practically grew up in that area, turning it into their home base for all their renovation projects.

  • “This is the neighborhood Mom and I do a lot of our renovations in,” Mina shared in a season 4 episode. “I really can’t imagine living anywhere else. It’s where we belong.”

During the early seasons, Karen and Mina admitted they had their fair share of disagreements, but they always managed to come together to finish their projects. There was a time when they could push each other’s buttons, but they’d eventually reconcile and move forward.

“I think we’re just getting back to the point where we like each other again,” Mina told IndyStar back in January 2016. “We live next door to each other. We’re mom and daughter and friends, as well. In regular life, we would go to our separate corners when we need a break, but when we’re filming, it’s full-time, five to six days a week, so there wasn’t time to go to our corners.”

Fast forward to October 2023, when Mina shared on her "Mina AF" podcast that she and her mom “do not talk.” Naturally, fans were curious about their living situation. One fan even asked Karen on Instagram, “Did you sell your Indy house next door to Mina?” Karen simply replied, “No.”

A Burglary That Left Karen Shocked

In November 2020, Karen revealed that her Indianapolis home had been burglarized. It wasn’t just a simple break-in; this one had a personal twist.

“Last Saturday, someone came in, stole more things, and pooped in the garage,” Karen told Fox 59 at the time. “It’s sort of an epithet to say I poop on you.”

  • Believe it or not, this was the third time someone had broken into her home, and the second time the burglar had defecated in her house. Can you imagine? It was a bizarre and unsettling situation.

“It seems very personal and intentional,” she explained. “So, they know we have a bathroom. That’s what makes it feel personal because it’s not, ‘Oh, I need to go to the bathroom.’ It’s, ‘I’m going to leave my feces behind for you to clean up.’”

Karen’s New Adventure: A Home in North Carolina

While Karen still holds onto her Indianapolis home, she’s also taken on a new adventure in Wilmington, North Carolina. She purchased a second home there and has been busy renovating the space. Interestingly, this move came just after Closer confirmed via court documents that Karen separated from her husband, Roger Rominger, in April 2022.

“I keep thinking eventually I will actually retire,” Karen shared with her Instagram followers in March 2023 about her future plans. “And I’ve always wanted to retire to North Carolina. So, I bought a house there with an eye to maybe retiring there. It’s going to take a while to get it fixed up. And I will always come back to Indy for family and work. But in my downtime, I think I’d like to be in North Carolina.”
