Mina Starsiak Hawk Shares Her Journey Post-'Good Bones'

Life after the hit HGTV show "Good Bones" has been a whirlwind of emotions and adjustments for Mina Starsiak Hawk. In a candid moment on her podcast "Mina AF," she opened up about the challenges of stepping away from the show and embracing a new chapter in her life. With her characteristic honesty, she shared her thoughts on responsibility, financial uncertainty, and the emotional toll of change.

“Now that I have this opportunity to direct my life more instead of just being an actor in it, it’s a little scary because it feels like so much responsibility,” Mina confessed in a heartfelt episode of her podcast on April 1. “Before, I was just going through the motions, and everything was happening. I was making enough money to be okay, but no one gets rich, especially when you're raising kids and being a good parent. You're just doing all the things, but without a real plan. And now, I’m in this weird spot where I can’t figure out my next steps,” she explained.

A New Chapter: Opening Two Chicks District Co.

In March, Mina took a bold step by opening her new retail store, Two Chicks District Co., in Noblesville, Indiana. As someone who has always thrived on ambition and drive, she admitted her expectations were high for this venture. However, reality has been a little more complicated than anticipated.

  • “The store has only been open for three and a half weeks, and it’s not going as gangbusters as I had hoped. That’s really hard to accept. And it’s only been three weeks! I’m so impatient. I want change, I want to do things, and I want to do them now. I want to be good at them now, but the truth is, I’m not being good at everything right now, and it makes me feel like crap. I think it’s probably a very normal feeling, but it’s one that I haven’t let myself experience in a long time,” she revealed to her podcast listeners.

Adjusting to Life Without the Spotlight

Mina acknowledged the change in her daily life post-"Good Bones." While she still has the love and support of her family, including her husband Steve Hawk and their children, Jack and Charlotte, the absence of the constant public attention has been noticeable. Fans have been reaching out to her, sharing messages about her transition.

“There’s no one around anymore, and it’s a really strange feeling. Not that there’s no one around, like obviously Steve and the kids are here. But the noise—that constant hum of activity and excitement—it’s gone now. It’s much quieter, and I’m really struggling to figure out where my passions intersect with what I’m good at and what actually makes money. That’s the tricky part,” she confessed.

    Financial Challenges and Future Plans

Mina also opened up about the financial challenges she’s faced since "Good Bones" ended in October 2023. For the first time in her professional life, she doesn’t know exactly where her next paycheck will come from. It’s been a significant adjustment, but one she’s determined to navigate.

“It’s the first time since I started working that I don’t necessarily know where the next paycheck is coming from, and there’s not a regular one. It’s a huge adjustment, but I’m taking it one step at a time,” she said.

Despite these challenges, Mina remains optimistic. She recently filmed a special for HGTV, documenting the renovation of her new lake house with her family. She also appeared in the latest season of "House Hunters: All Stars," continuing to share her passion for real estate and design with her fans.
