From Ballroom Dancing to Acting: Kym Johnson-Herjavec’s Exciting Transition
There’s nothing like a fresh start, and Kym Johnson-Herjavec is all about reinvention. After stealing the spotlight on Dancing With the Stars for years, this talented performer is ready to take on a whole new challenge—acting. Kym recently sat down exclusively with Closer to share her excitement about her first big acting role in Lifetime’s upcoming film, Hunting Housewives. Her enthusiasm is contagious, and she’s clearly thrilled to be part of this project.
Now, you might be wondering what this film is all about. Well, it’s a story of friendship and survival. Hunting Housewives features a group of close-knit girlfriends, including the fabulous NeNe Leakes, Denise Richards, and Melyssa Ford. The storyline delves deep into their relationships—not just with each other but also with their husbands. Kym explains that the movie showcases the bonds they share and the challenges they face together. It’s not just about friendship; it’s about how far these women will go to support one another.
Playing a Princess with Depth
Kym, who’s now 47, couldn’t be happier with her character in the film. She describes her as “a bit of a princess,” but don’t let that fool you. There’s so much more to her than meets the eye. “She’s got a lot of substance,” Kym says, “and she discovers just how strong she really is when she’s thrust into a survival situation.” Imagine being stranded in the wilderness and having to rely on your inner strength. That’s exactly what her character experiences, and Kym brings that journey to life with authenticity and grace.

Reuniting with Familiar Faces
For Kym, working on Hunting Housewives was like coming home. She already knew NeNe, 56, and Denise, 53, from her time on Dancing With the Stars. Their connection made the set feel like a family reunion. “We already had such a great bond from Dancing,” Kym shares. “So it was so much fun to work together again, especially with Melyssa. It was amazing getting to know her too.” The camaraderie among the cast made the experience even more memorable, and you can feel that chemistry in every scene.
This film marks a significant moment in Kym’s career. It’s been a while since she’s been fully immersed in a project, and she credits her decision to return to work to her growing family. After welcoming twins Hudson and Haven with husband Robert Herjavec in April 2018, Kym took some time to focus on motherhood. Now, with her kids a little older, she’s ready to dive back into her creative passions. “I’ve missed being creative,” she admits. “Whether it’s choreographing dances or collaborating with costume designers, it’s such a rewarding process. This role has been the perfect way to ease back into things.”

Kym’s family has been nothing but supportive as she embarks on this next chapter. “They think it’s really cool,” she says with a smile. “I’ve always worked since I was 14, so taking time off felt strange. I missed the creativity of Dancing With the Stars. There’s something magical about collaborating with costume designers, creating sets, and choreographing dances. It’s such a fun and collaborative process, and I’ve really missed that.”
What’s Next for Kym?
Kym isn’t stopping here. She’s already teasing some exciting projects in the works. “I’m planning a cabaret show in Palm Springs later this year,” she reveals. “It’s going to be a one-woman show where I tell my story—how I came from Australia to Hollywood. It’s been a lot of fun putting it together.” With her charm and talent, there’s no doubt this show will be a hit.
Don’t miss Lifetime’s Hunting Housewives, airing on Saturday, March 9, at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT. It’s sure to be an unforgettable journey filled with laughter, tears, and plenty of surprises.
