Valerie Bertinelli Hopes to Become a Grandma Soon

During her appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show last Friday, May 10, the beloved actress from One Day at a Time revealed her heartfelt wish to become a grandma. She expressed her excitement with a grin, saying, "I want to be a grandma, you know, all of those [things]." But she also emphasized the importance of respecting her son's life choices, showing the maturity and understanding that fans have always admired in her.
Her Son's Recent Marriage
Valerie's only son, Wolfgang Van Halen, tied the knot with his wife, Andraia Allsop, in October 2023. Wolf, who turned 33 this year, is the product of Valerie's marriage to the late rock legend Eddie Van Halen, which lasted from 1981 to 2007. Valerie, now 64, shared her thoughts on the matter, saying, "I need to respect them and let them enjoy their life." She admitted that it's tempting to nudge them along, but she's making a conscious effort not to be "one of those parents or moms" who constantly asks, "You just got married, so when’s the baby coming?"

"I’m planning on doing nothing on Mother’s Day," the former Food Network star told the audience. "Doing nothing means a lot to me." She added that her son, Wolfie, would likely be on the road, so they wouldn't be seeing each other. However, she shared that he always sends her balloons or flowers, affectionately addressed to "Valerie, Bert and Ernie," a playful nickname he's given her.
New Love in Valerie's Life
Valerie's interview came shortly after she went public with her new boyfriend, Mike Goodnough, in April. She opened up about their relationship with USA TODAY in March, saying, "I’ve met someone. And I’m incredibly grateful for him." She described the relationship as something entirely new and special, stating, "It’s unlike any relationship that I’ve ever experienced with a man. I don’t want to say too much, but I feel incredibly blessed and lucky to have met him, because I wasn’t expecting it!"
Since then, the couple has shared their journey on social media, posting cute photos and clips together. Mike even celebrated Valerie's birthday on April 23 by traveling to see her, despite the discomfort of flying. "Sure, the plane is full and the cabin is eleventy-thousand degrees and I’m in Seat 51G … but it’s @wolfiesmom’s birthday and she’s waiting on the other side and it feels like I’m the one getting the present here," he wrote in his caption.
In the comments section, Valerie couldn't help but express her joy, responding, "How do I (love) this eleventy hundred times? Happy birthday to meeeeee." It's evident that Valerie is not only focused on becoming a grandma but also enjoying the new chapter of love in her life.
