It’s been four years since the beloved TV personality, Tom Bergeron, was unexpectedly replaced by Tyra Banks as the host of Dancing With the Stars. At the Critics’ Choice Real TV Awards in Century City, California, on June 15, the 69-year-old sat down exclusively with Closer to reflect on his shocking departure and to share what the future holds for him. Tom, known for his charm and wit, opened up about the transition in a way that only he could—honest, funny, and full of wisdom.
Tom admitted, “Look, here’s the thing: you never know what life has in store for you. S–t happens, and you’ve got to roll with it. It’s part of the game.” He added, “In any career, you might lose jobs along the way, and that’s just how it goes. It’s not personal; it’s business. But hey, I’ve had an incredible run, and I’m grateful for every moment of it.”
While there are definitely some things he misses about the iconic dancing competition—like the camaraderie, the excitement of live television, and, as Tom joked, “the paycheck”—he’s at peace with his decision to step away from hosting gigs. “Honestly, I don’t see myself hosting anything ever again,” he revealed. “I’ve done it to death, folks. I’ve hosted everything under the sun. From game shows to award shows, I’ve done it all. I’m open to new challenges, but hosting? Been there, done that.”

What’s Next for Tom Bergeron?
