Two years after officially parting ways with her ex-husband Brooks Laich, Julianne Hough is spilling the tea on her current love life and what the future might hold for her heart. It's not all about finding the next big romance, though—she's keeping things real, folks.

Heart Still Open, But No Rush for Julianne Hough

The cohost of Dancing With the Stars is currently flying solo, but that doesn't mean she's ruling out the possibility of love knocking on her door again someday. “Look, my heart is open,” she told People in a candid interview that hit the internet on Monday, July 1. “I’m ready for whatever feels right. Life’s about taking it as it comes, you know?”

Julianne, now 35, went on to emphasize that she’s not in any hurry to jump back into a relationship. Instead, she’s focusing on staying true to herself and letting things unfold naturally. “I’m not going to force something if it’s not real. I’m open to whatever comes my way, but it’s got to be something really special,” she shared with a smile.

Reconnecting With Ex-Husband Brooks Laich

Interestingly, Julianne and Brooks, 41, managed to cross paths again last year at her brother Derek Hough's wedding to Hayley Erbert in Monterey County, California. Brooks even stepped up as a groomsman, while Julianne played the role of bridesmaid, proving that they can still coexist peacefully.

“The weekend was absolutely breathtaking, filled with so much love and laughter! I love you both so much 💕 love your sissy,” Julianne wrote in an Instagram post celebrating the newlyweds. Meanwhile, Brooks chimed in with, “Such an incredible weekend, love you both!!!”

For those who don’t remember, Julianne and Brooks tied the knot back in 2017 after dating for three years. However, they announced their decision to separate in May 2020. At the time, they released a heartfelt joint statement saying, “We have lovingly and carefully taken the time we needed to arrive at our decision to separate. We share an abundance of love and respect for one another and will continue to lead with our hearts from that place. We kindly request your compassion and respect for our privacy moving forward.”

Embracing Authenticity and Growth

Before their split, Julianne had already begun exploring her own identity and how it influenced her relationship with Brooks. In an August 2019 interview with Women’s Health, she opened up about her evolving sense of self and intimacy. “I was connecting to the woman inside who doesn’t need anything, versus the little girl that looked to him to protect me,” she explained. “I was like, ‘Is he going to love this version of me?’ But the more I embraced my most authentic self, the more attracted he was to me. Now we had a deeper, more intimate relationship.”

She also revealed a pivotal moment in their relationship where she shared her true feelings with Brooks. “I [told him], ‘You know I’m not straight, right?’ And he was like, ‘I’m sorry, what?’ I was like, ‘I’m not. But I choose to be with you,’” she recounted. “There’s a safety now with my husband that allows me to unpack all of this, and there’s no fear of voicing things I’ve been afraid to admit or that I’ve had shame or guilt about because of how I was raised.”

By the time their divorce was finalized in June 2022, Julianne was already looking ahead to a new chapter in her life. A year later, she spoke candidly about her single status and her hopes for the future. “I’m ready for friends and travel, and I guess that is a ‘hot girl summer.’ I don’t know,” she told Page Six in June 2023. When asked if romance was on her radar, she simply replied, “Nope.”
