Craig Melvin Calls Out Carson Daly for Speedy Departure After 'Today' Episodes
During a candid appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Craig Melvin gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at life after the cameras stop rolling on the iconic Today show. The 45-year-old broadcaster shared some surprising insights about his fellow castmates, revealing who’s the first one out the door when the show wraps.
When Andy Cohen, 56, posed the question, "Who’s out of there the fastest when the show is off the air?" Craig didn’t even hesitate. He immediately named Carson Daly, practically shouting, “C Daly, baby!”
Carson Daly's Post-Show Routine: A Busy Dad's Schedule
Andy was genuinely surprised by Craig’s response, prompting him to dig deeper into Carson’s reasons for such a swift exit. Craig elaborated with a joke, saying, "Oh dude, taking off the mic and the IFB at 8:35 sometimes. Well, ‘cause I mean, he’s got like 17 kids!" Carson, 50, shares four children—Jackson, Etta, London, and Goldie—with his wife, Siri Daly. Their bustling family life keeps them busy outside the studio, residing in a beautiful Long Island home.

But Carson’s responsibilities extend far beyond fatherhood. Besides co-hosting the long-running Today show, he's been the face of NBC's The Voice since its debut in 2011. On top of that, he hosts a weekly radio segment called The Daly Download With Carson Daly, where he counts down the top 30 music hits. With such a packed schedule, it’s no wonder Carson makes a beeline for the door as soon as the show wraps!
A Father’s Day Celebration on 'Today': Lessons in Parenthood
Just before Craig’s playful revelation, the Today team gathered for a heartfelt Father’s Day discussion. The hosts shared their thoughts on fatherhood and the valuable lessons they've learned along the way.
Carson shared a poignant moment during the segment, emphasizing the importance of mental health for parents. He said, "When your wrist hurts or you hurt your leg at school, you go to a doctor. Same thing with your brain. If something’s not right, you can go to a doctor. It’s OK to ask for help. Cycles can be broken. These are the larger lessons of life that I love teaching as a father."

Craig Melvin, who shares two children, Delano and Sybil, with his wife Lindsay Czarniak, also opened up about his own experiences with fatherhood. He recounted a recent emotional milestone involving his daughter, Sybil. "I was in Sybil’s class last week for one of the 12 end-of-year celebrations they have," Craig explained. "When Sybil, who’s 7, handed me her certificate and memory book, I got choked up. She looked up at me and said, 'Dad, are you crying again?' They probably see me cry as much as they see my wife cry!"
Al Roker, Craig’s close friend and fellow Today host, chimed in to support Craig during this touching moment. At 69, Al shared his own story about redefining masculinity through emotion. "The first time I saw my dad cry was when he and my mother lost a child," Al recalled. "I was about 7 years old and still too young to understand what that loss meant. But over the years, I saw him cry many times—from pride, joy, and sorrow. It informed me that it’s OK to express emotions. He was old school, tough, and a disciplinarian, yet he was also incredibly emotional—a big kisser and hugger."
