Eva and José’s love story began long before the arrival of Santiago. The couple got engaged in December 2015 and tied the knot in May 2016 at José’s home in Valle de Bravo, Mexico. Their wedding was nothing short of magical, filled with love, laughter, and more than a few surprises.

Reflecting on their special day while promoting the film Lowriders, Eva recalled, “There were so many unforgettable moments during our wedding. The tequila definitely added to the fun, but it also blurred things a bit! José kept surprising me throughout the night—there was a surprise singer, a surprise video, and more surprises every half hour. I was like, ‘I can’t handle any more surprises! My heart is going to explode!’ It was an incredible celebration of our love.”

Santiago’s Arrival: A Life-Changing Moment

In December 2017, Eva excitedly announced that she was expecting her first child with José. At 43 years old, Eva gave birth to Santiago, marking a new chapter in her life. She spoke candidly about becoming a parent later in life, sharing her thoughts with Parents Latina in August 2019.

“Santiago was meant to be with me at this stage in my life,” Eva expressed. “I’m more patient now, and I’ve learned to balance my career in ways I never thought possible. Even though it might not seem like it, I don’t work as much as I used to. My focus has shifted, and my priorities are clearer now.”

From the very beginning, Santiago has been a constant presence in Eva’s life. Whether it’s film sets or business meetings, Santiago is often by her side.

“He is with me all the time!” Eva revealed in an interview with People, 10 months after Santiago’s birth. “If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll see that he’s on set with me, in meetings with me—it’s like he’s my little shadow. He’s truly a part of everything I do.”

For Santiago’s first birthday, Eva spared no expense, hosting a memorable celebration at Disneyland. In an Instagram caption, she wrote, “Every laugh and giggle that comes from your mouth, every smile that crosses your face, brings me pure joy. Thank you for choosing me as your mamá! I love you, my amor. Happy Birthday, Santi baby!”

Supporting Santiago’s Future

As Santiago grows, Eva is committed to supporting whatever path he chooses. “Santiago comes to work with me, and he’s such a sweet little boy—he causes absolutely no trouble,” Eva shared in a December 2018 interview with People. “He’s been on set with me since he was a baby, but so far, he hasn’t given me any critiques about my work! When I direct, he watches closely and pays attention. If he decides to become an actor when he grows up, of course, I would fully support him.”

In June 2023, Eva revealed during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show that her son’s first language is Spanish. “I didn’t grow up speaking Spanish,” she told host Kelly Clarkson. “But we lived in Mexico City, and I was shooting in Spain. Santiago is super fluent in Spanish and often corrects me with a bit of attitude. It’s adorable!”

Raising a Global Citizen

During an appearance on Today in June 2024, Eva spoke about how cultured her son is becoming. “Oh my gosh, I absolutely love that Santiago is always with me when I’m working,” she gushed. “If we’re in Spain, we all go to Spain. If we’re in Rome, we’re all in Rome. He’s growing up with such a global perspective, and he understands and appreciates different cultures and languages. He’ll say, ‘Mom, can we have macaroons if we go to Paris?’ or ‘We can eat jamón when we’re in Spain.’ It’s wonderful to watch him embrace the world around him.”
