What is Mohs Surgery?
Mohs surgery is a specialized procedure designed to treat skin cancer with precision. According to Mayo Clinic, the process involves carefully removing thin layers of skin and examining them under a microscope to ensure all cancerous cells are eliminated. This meticulous approach ensures that only the affected tissue is removed, sparing as much healthy skin as possible. Sam’s doctors had to perform a second pass to ensure all traces of cancer were eradicated.“A little longer and deeper necessary… not gonna lie… I’m disappointed, but we are going to get it all out,” Sam candidly shared on Instagram after the second round of surgery. His transparency about the challenges of the procedure resonated deeply with his followers, many of whom praised his bravery and openness.
Emotional Struggles and Strength
On October 3, Sam provided an update, acknowledging the mental toll of the procedure. “Mentally, yesterday was a rough day,” he admitted in an Instagram Story. “I gotta say, I just felt a little overwhelmed on the second pass, but I think that’s natural and normal.” His honesty about the emotional ups and downs of the journey allowed fans to connect with him on a personal level.
Sam urged his fans to take sun exposure seriously and regularly check their skin for any abnormalities. “Always keep an eye on your own skin,” he advised, emphasizing the importance of self-awareness. Despite some swelling after the surgery, he assured his followers that he was healing well. “The damage is the damage, the scar will be the scar,” he said, sharing a photo of the stitches under his eye and the protective bandage he wore to cover the wound.
Learning from the Past
Sam reflected on his past habits, acknowledging that he used to enjoy sunbathing. “I haven’t done that in years now. When I’m in a beach chair, I have an umbrella, and I have my sunscreen,” he told fans. He vowed to be even more cautious moving forward. “Sun exposure, I’ll be very careful with now,” he said. “I don’t think legitimate sunbathing where you lay in the sun like a lizard, I don’t think that’s been a part of my recent past and it won’t be a part of my close-to future, either.”Sam also shared how the surgery temporarily impacted his eyesight due to the numbing injection. However, he expressed gratitude for the skilled medical professionals who helped him through the ordeal. “Final final👍. We got it all! Thanks to a hardworking group of very kind DRs and Nurses! Keep a close eye on your skin … No one knows it better than you … And when you see something you don’t like, make sure you talk to your doctor,” he wrote on X after the surgery.
