In the midst of her divorce from Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez has revealed that this summer brought her unexpected challenges she never foresaw. But through it all, she’s found strength and clarity about her life’s direction.
Reflecting on Life’s Unexpected Turns
“I was reflecting on this chapter of my life, and I thought, ‘This isn’t what I imagined it to be,’” Jennifer shared during an intimate conversation with comedian Nikki Glaser for Interview Magazine on October 9. “But then I realized, ‘No, this is precisely where I was meant to be—to guide me toward where I want to go.’”
Acknowledging Pain and Growth
Nikki, who turned 40 this year, added, “The pain you’ve endured recently, you don’t regret it.”

Jennifer, now 55, replied with raw honesty, “Not for a single moment. That doesn’t mean it didn’t almost knock me out completely. It nearly did. But now, as I look back from the other side, I think to myself, ‘Damn, that’s exactly what I needed. Thank you, universe. I apologize it took me so long to learn. I’m sorry you had to teach me this lesson repeatedly. I should have understood it by now. But I get it now. You had to hit me over the head with a sledgehammer. You even dropped the house on me. Please don’t repeat that process.’”
Divorce After Two Years of Marriage
The star of Hustlers filed for divorce from Ben, 52, on August 20 after two years of marriage. The couple’s separation date was listed as April 26.
Rumors about their relationship had been swirling for months before the split. They put their shared home up for sale and were seen spending time apart, with Ben purchasing a property in Los Angeles without Jennifer in July.
Family Ties Amid Change
Jennifer shares her children, Emme and Max, with her ex-husband Marc Anthony, while Ben shares Violet, Fin, and Samuel with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner. Despite these changes, Jennifer remains focused on her personal growth and future.

Looking Forward with Excitement
During the interview, J. Lo admitted she doesn’t have every detail figured out, but she’s optimistic about what’s ahead. “Now, I’m genuinely excited when someone says I’ll be on my own,” she said. “Absolutely, I’m not searching for anyone because everything I’ve accomplished over the past 25 to 30 years, navigating through various challenging situations, makes me wonder what I can achieve when I’m flying solo.”
“What if I’m just free?” Jennifer questioned, reflecting on her newfound independence.

Embracing Personal Growth
“The real work lies in understanding yourself better. It’s about examining the emotions beneath the surface and the belief systems that shape our choices and create patterns in our lives,” she explained. “When you think you’ve learned the lessons, but things still don’t work out, you realize there’s more to uncover. I believe in constantly looking inward because it’s easy to blame others.”
Most recently, the Grammy-nominated artist appeared in the film Unstoppable, produced by Ben and his longtime friend Matt Damon. Jennifer attended the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of the movie solo in early September, as Ben was seen spending time with his kids in Los Angeles.
