There’s nothing like a good parenting story to keep things interesting, and Kelly Ripa has one for the books. During an episode of Live With Kelly and Mark, Kelly couldn’t help but call out her husband, Mark Consuelos, for an unexpected move he made years ago. It turns out, Mark once took their son to Hooters when he was younger. Yes, you read that right—Hooters! The conversation, which aired on Tuesday, September 10, was filled with laughter and some good-natured ribbing between the couple.
Mark’s Love for Hooters
Mark, who is now 53, was reminiscing about his pride in the fact that Hooters originated in Florida, where he lived with his family during his younger years. But before he could finish his thought, Kelly, also 53, jumped in with a story that wouldn’t be forgotten anytime soon. She said, “I remember when you took our son to Hooters!” Mark, trying to play it cool, quickly replied, “No, no, no.” However, Kelly wasn’t about to let him off the hook that easily.
Mark’s Defense and the Playdate
Kelly went on to explain that Mark had taken their son on a playdate to Hooters with another child and his father. “I’m not kidding!” she exclaimed. “The two dads took the sons to Hooters!” Now, that’s a playdate you don’t forget. Kelly, who shares three children—Michael, Lola, and Joaquin—with Mark, revealed that when they returned home, their son was “reeking of cigarette smoke.” She recalled asking, “Did you guys sit in the smoking section?” To which they responded, “The whole place was the smoking section.”

Mark tried to defend himself, explaining that it wasn’t exactly his idea. He said, “Well, it wasn’t like my go-to hangout.” He elaborated, “It was solidified by the fact he said, ‘We’re gonna go take the kids out to eat chicken wings.’ I said, ‘Sure.’ He was driving, and then we pulled into Hooters.” Clearly, Mark wasn’t the mastermind behind this particular outing.

Laughing It Off
Kelly joked that Mark was “blaming the other dad” rather than owning up to his part in the situation. But as they do, the couple laughed it off and didn’t take it too seriously. It’s all part of the fun that comes with raising kids, right? That same day, Kelly revealed to E! News that her kids often temporarily block her on social media. “Usually, if I comment on one of the two of their social media posts, I will get a temporary blocking,” she shared. “Then, the ban gets lifted and I’m reinstated. But I’m like, ‘Why can’t you guys be like the other kids on social media? They happily allow their parents in there.’”
She added, “Lisa Rinna’s girls do TikTok videos with her,” and with a chuckle, she said, “And not that I want to be in a TikTok, but can I be on your TikTok?” Kelly had shared a similar sentiment the previous year, stating, “I’m pretty sure they’ve blocked us,” and adding, “When you have a news feed and it says ‘Suggest more or suggest this, like this or block this channel,’ I’m certain they have blocked any channel with any mention of our names. Just like they block us on social media. They block us any way they can.”
“They’re in a whole ‘nother subculture,” the talk show host noted. “They’re like, ‘What do you mean? What are you guys doing?’ They have no idea.” Mark chimed in, saying, “Each kid, through different periods of time in their lives, goes through a stage like, ‘Don’t talk about us or I’d rather not be a subject.’ We respect that.”
