A Night to Remember: Jasmine Roth's Emotional Birth Story

Jasmine Roth’s unexpected labor began on a serene date night with her husband, Brett Roth, celebrating their 11th wedding anniversary in their new Utah neighborhood. As they strolled together, Jasmine felt her first contraction, but since their due date was still a month away, she didn’t think much of it. “I breathed through it and figured it was nothing to worry about,” she explained. But within 25 minutes, the pain became unbearable, and Jasmine knew something was off. She recalled yelling for Brett to hurry and get the car, realizing they needed to head to the hospital immediately. Neither of them expected the baby to arrive that night, but they soon understood the urgency of the situation.

Caught Off-Guard: The Rush to the Hospital

As Jasmine and Brett raced to the hospital, they encountered heavy traffic, which threatened to delay their arrival. In a moment of panic, they called 911 for assistance. The operator advised Brett to pull over because Jasmine’s contractions were coming in rapid succession. Jasmine described lying across the front seat of their truck, screaming in pain, as her water broke and she felt immense pressure. “I was so scared,” she admitted. “I never imagined I’d have to face the possibility of delivering my baby on the side of the road.”

Finding Strength Amid Fear

Despite her physical readiness for an unmedicated birth, Jasmine found herself emotionally overwhelmed. “I was beyond frustrated,” she confessed. “I knew I was capable of handling the pain, but I wasn’t mentally prepared. I felt caught off-guard and struggled to find any peace or strength in that moment. I was terrified, yet I didn’t want to admit it.”

Welcoming Darla: A Tiny Miracle

Thankfully, an ambulance arrived, and Jasmine was quickly transferred to the hospital. Once there, the pain became overwhelming. Amidst the chaos of screaming and cursing, Jasmine gave birth to Darla, who arrived a month early and weighed just 4 lbs. 8 oz. “She was perfect, but so tiny,” Jasmine marveled. “I’d never seen a baby so small. I looked up at Brett and said, ‘she’s here, she’s beautiful, she’s so tiny,’ and I wrapped myself protectively around her.”

The Aftermath: A Mother’s Journey Continues

Doctors informed Jasmine that her placenta had hemorrhaged, explaining why the labor lasted less than two hours. Darla spent 15 days in the ICN, where she was carefully monitored. Reflecting on their hospital release, Jasmine shared, “When we finally went home, it was such a strange feeling. I no longer looked pregnant, and I was moving faster than most new mothers. We had the tiniest baby in tow, who barely passed her car seat test because she didn’t even weigh 5 lbs. But mostly, we were thrilled to be together as a family.”
