Rumer Willis, the eldest daughter of Bruce and Demi, opened up about her parents' relationship in a heartfelt interview with People on Thursday, October 17. She shared that despite their divorce in 2000, Bruce, now 69, and Demi, 61, have continued to maintain a loving and supportive relationship. Together, they have three daughters: Rumer, 36, Scout, and Tallulah Willis.
Rumer's Perspective
Rumer elaborated on the depth of her mother's involvement in their lives. "It means so much to me, the way that my mom shows up for all of us as we navigate this journey. Even how she handles everything with my little sisters—it's truly remarkable," she said. Her words underscore the strength and resilience that Demi brings to their family dynamic.

Since remarrying in 2009 to Emma Heming Willis, Bruce has added two more daughters, Mabel and Evelyn, to his family. Yet, the connection between Bruce and Demi remains unwavering. "We go over to dinner at Emma’s house with the girls, and we're family. Family can take many forms, but it’s all about what it means," Rumer revealed.
A Blended Family That Works
Rumer, known for her role in House Bunny, emphasized that their blended family is incredibly close-knit. They make every effort to spend as much time together as possible. "I never had to split a holiday. We never had to divide family vacations or Christmases or birthdays. A lot of the time, it’s just our own egos that get in the way," she reflected.
In April 2023, Rumer welcomed her daughter, Louetta, with her ex-boyfriend Derek Richard Thomas. Though they’ve since parted ways, she remains committed to co-parenting. In an August Instagram Story, she wrote, "I am single momming it and coparenting." Her focus is on creating a loving environment for Louetta.

Rumer praised her parents for setting an "unbelievable example" in co-parenting. She spoke about her current co-parenting relationship with Derek, saying, "We have found an amazing way to keep our friendship and our loving co-parenting relationship. Both of us are so happy that we can have that for ourselves as well as for Lou." Her words reflect a mature understanding of what it takes to prioritize family over personal differences.
A Time of Reflection
Family time is especially precious for the Willis family as they navigate Bruce’s dementia journey. Demi echoed this sentiment during the 2024 Hamptons International Film Festival on October 13, where she gave an update on Bruce’s health. "The disease is what it is. You have to deeply accept that," she said while accepting the Career Achievement in Acting Award. "But for where he’s at, he is stable." She encouraged others to "meet them where they’re at," emphasizing the beauty of being present for loved ones in their current state.
Demi revealed that she visited Bruce just two days before the event. Rumer and Louetta, 18 months, were there too. Reflecting on the visit, Demi said, "It’s so important for us to be able to share whatever we have, for however long we have it." In May, Rumer appeared on Today and shared that Bruce has a special bond with Louetta. "He’s so good. I actually got to see him right before I came out [to New York]," she told Hoda Kotb. "And Lou is just starting to walk a little bit, and she was walking over to him, and it was so sweet."
