From Ivy League to the Spotlight: Julie's Academic Roots
Before Julie became the household name she is today, she embarked on an academic journey that shaped her worldview. She attended Brown University, where she majored in Italian Renaissance studies—a field that might seem worlds away from the glitz of Hollywood. But as she reflects, this period was transformative in more ways than one. "I lived in Florence for a year, and it was magnificent," she shares with a nostalgic smile. "I was 20 years old, with long blond hair, and I didn’t pay for anything. It wasn’t all red wine and pasta, though there was plenty of that. It was challenging, too—a real test of my resilience and adaptability."
Staying Grounded: Exercise as a Lifeline
For Julie, staying active isn’t just about physical fitness—it’s a mental health anchor. "Running is my go-to," she explains, "but it’s really for my sanity more than anything else. Yoga used to be a big part of my routine, but let’s be honest—it can be time-consuming. I’ve learned that yoga instructors have their own unique relationship with time. They live by a clock that doesn’t always sync with ours!"
Taking on the Role of a Lifetime
Julie’s latest role in Peacock’s Hysteria! pushes her boundaries in unexpected ways. Set against the backdrop of the '80s Satanic Panic, the series dives deep into psychological thrills. "It’s a rollercoaster," she admits. "By the end of the first episode, you’re left questioning everything. Is my character sane, or is she losing it? That ambiguity makes it so much fun to play. It’s a challenge, but that’s what acting is all about—stretching yourself and exploring new territory."

Lessons in Parenthood: The Influence of 'Modern Family'
As a mother of three teenage sons with her ex, Scott Phillips, Julie credits her role on 'Modern Family' for teaching her valuable parenting lessons. "I played a mom to older kids on TV before I became one in real life," she jokes. "In some ways, my character Claire was a blueprint for me. Parenting is such a journey—it’s never a finished product. You’re constantly learning and adapting, and that’s what makes it beautiful."
Partnering with Comedy Icon Adam Sandler
Collaborating with Adam Sandler on Happy Gilmore 2 has been a dream come true for Julie. "Adam is as delightful now as he was back in the day," she gushes. "He’s such a gem to work with—funny, kind, and incredibly talented. We’re thrilled to bring this sequel to life. It’s going to be a blast, and I think fans are in for a treat."
