Let’s face it—fans of the long-running series Blue Bloods are wondering what’s next for their favorite characters, especially after CBS decided to bring the curtain down on the show. Tom Selleck, the man behind the iconic Frank Reagan, has shared his thoughts on whether or not we’ll see a spinoff featuring the beloved NYPD commissioner. And it sounds like the chances are pretty slim, at least for now.
Tom Selleck Opens Up About the Future of Frank Reagan
In a recent interview with Parade Magazine, Tom gave fans a candid update about the status of any potential spinoff. “I’m open to suggestions because I truly love playing Frank Reagan,” he said. “But so far, no one has come forward with an idea that excites me. Honestly, I don’t see Frank retiring and moving to some small town. If I were to do another project, it’d probably be more Jesse Stone movies.”
Tom, who’s now 79 years old, will make his final appearances on Blue Bloods in the penultimate episode airing on December 6, followed by the season finale on December 13. These episodes are expected to be emotional, as fans say goodbye to a show that’s been a staple of their Friday nights for over a decade.

Looking Back at Tom Selleck's Career
Tom’s career has been nothing short of legendary. Over the years, he’s captured our hearts as Magnum P.I., Detective Jesse Stone, and, of course, as Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods. Fans might remember his memorable performance in the Jesse Stone series, which included nine films. The last one, Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise, came out in 2015. Now that Blue Bloods has come to an end, it seems Tom might have more time to explore other exciting projects.
What About a Spinoff?
While Tom may not be jumping at the chance to continue Frank Reagan’s story, his fellow cast members have been vocal about the possibility of a spinoff. Some have even suggested the idea of setting a new series in Los Angeles. However, nothing official has been announced just yet.
Abigail Hawk, who plays Jamie Reagan on the show, shared her thoughts with Hello! Magazine back in October. “We’ve definitely had conversations about a potential spinoff,” she revealed. “But if it were to happen right after Blue Bloods ends, it would likely involve a completely different family or storyline. It wouldn’t include the Reagans or the NYPD. Maybe it’s set in L.A. or something like that.”

At the time of her interview, Abigail, who’s 42, expressed hope that CBS might reconsider their decision to cancel Blue Bloods. “Once these final episodes start airing, I believe CBS executives might realize they’ve made a huge mistake,” she said. “Maybe they’ll rethink their decision down the line. There’s still hope.”
“I don’t think there’s much chance of the show moving to another network, though I’ve heard some chatter about that,” Abigail added. “Given the discussions we’ve had with the cast and producers, it doesn’t seem like a viable option. But you know, hope is important. We’d all drop everything to make it happen if CBS changes their mind. At the end of the day, CBS has the final say, but I hope they recognize not just how commercially successful Blue Bloods is, but also how much fans love it. Family is universal, and there are still so many stories to tell.”
Reflecting on the Legacy of 'Blue Bloods'
It seems CBS has made up their minds, as they aired a retrospective special to bid farewell to Blue Bloods on November 29. Still, the cast and crew took the opportunity to reminisce about their favorite moments from the show.

Abigail particularly credited Tom for giving her a career-defining role on the show. Initially, she was only supposed to appear in one episode after the pilot. “You know, Abigail started with just one line, and she earned her place,” Tom said during Blue Bloods: Celebrating a Family Legacy.
“Tom was the one who advocated for me, and it completely changed my life,” Abigail shared, reflecting on her time on the show. After appearing in over 260 episodes, she’s now an integral part of the Blue Bloods family.
