There’s no denying that Hoda Kotb is a rockstar mom to her daughters Haley and Hope. On a chilly Tuesday, December 3, during an episode of Today, Hoda proved once again why she’s the ultimate parent. Her eldest daughter, Haley, made a special appearance on the show as part of a class trip, bringing a wave of warmth and joy to the set.
Hoda Kotb’s Second Graders Make a Splash on the Plaza
As the episode kicked off, Hoda’s co-host, Savannah Guthrie, couldn’t help but notice a group of familiar faces in the audience. “Lots to get through, but Hoda, I see some of our favorite second graders on the plaza,” Savannah exclaimed, turning the spotlight on Hoda, who was beaming with pride. At 60 years young, Hoda is still as enthusiastic and vibrant as ever.
Hoda wasted no time in welcoming her daughter’s class to the show. “We just want to say hi! Miss Rutherford’s class is here. I’ve got Haley and all of her classmates. Hi, guys!” she cheered, her voice filled with excitement. “Are you guys freezing cold but you’re having fun?” The kids responded in unison with a resounding “Yeah!” Haley, all of 7, stood proudly among her classmates, flashing a bright smile that warmed everyone’s hearts.

The Best Field Trip Ever
Hoda wasn’t done yet. She went on to tease the audience about what was coming next. “You’re going to see more of them; they’re going to come on our show at 10,” she announced. “We’ve got the principal and vice principal— we’ve got the whole crew! Best field trip ever.” It was clear that Hoda was thrilled to share this special moment with her fans, showing just how much her family means to her.
Later in the fourth hour of the show, Hoda joined Jenna Bush Hager for Today With Hoda & Jenna. The class, dressed in matching Today T-shirts, stood on stage, waving enthusiastically to the cameras. As Hoda and Jenna, 43, made their way to their seats, Hoda couldn’t contain her excitement. “Take a look at these lovely faces! Do you see them? This is my daughter’s second grade class and this is Miss Rutherford in the house!” she gushed, her voice filled with pride and joy.
Field Trips Are a Must
Jenna chimed in, agreeing wholeheartedly with Hoda. “I feel like we need a field trip at least once a year,” she said, clearly enjoying the energy and excitement the kids brought to the show. Hoda, always the thoughtful mom, then asked the camera operator to slowly pan the camera across the class so that all the moms watching at home could get a good look at their kids on stage. “There they are! Smile, guys,” she said, her excitement palpable.
Jenna echoed the sentiment, noting how much fun it was to see all the kids enjoying their time on the show. “I loved the enthusiasm of the children,” one viewer commented on Today’s official Instagram page. Another added, “A field trip to remember! So darn cute.”
New Adventures in Suburbia
This year, Haley started attending a new school after Hoda made the decision to move her family into a suburban home. Previously, Hoda, the author of Hope Is a Rainbow, lived in a New York City apartment with Haley and Hope, 5. Reflecting on the change, Hoda shared her thoughts during a September 4 episode of Today. “Everything changed like that,” she said, describing the transition. “I have a whole new town and a whole new school, and all the new things. And we went for our first day of school.”
Hoda and her daughters embraced the change wholeheartedly, even walking to school and snapping a sweet family photo along the way. “I carried coffee and I had sneakers and I walked with my kids to school like normal people! It was awesome!” Hoda said with a laugh. “I just loved doing it because I haven’t been able to do that, and it was so fun to walk my kids to school.”

“And I know that it’s like a privilege cause you got to work, but I just thought, ‘You know what, sometimes chapters change you and you miss things. I’m going to do it,’” Hoda explained, sharing her heartfelt thoughts about making the most of every moment with her kids. As she prepares to leave Today in January 2025, Hoda is clearly savoring every second of her time with her family.
