Marie Osmond Celebrates Son Matthew's Return From A Life-Changing Church Mission

Marie Osmond Praises Son Matthew After His Church Mission

Let me tell you a story about a proud mom named Marie Osmond. She recently couldn’t contain her excitement as her son Matthew came back home after a two-year-long church mission. Now, that’s something worth talking about, right? It wasn’t just any mission; it was an incredible journey that took him to four different parts of Michigan, where he served the local community with dedication and passion.

Marie, who turned 60 last year, couldn’t wait to share her joy with her fans. On January 4, she posted a heartfelt message on Instagram. “My son returned from his church mission on Wednesday,” she wrote. “He spent two amazing years helping the people in Michigan, and believe me, our family couldn’t wait for New Year’s Day 2020 to come so we could have him back.” But wait, there’s more. Marie didn’t stop there. She decided to pen down a beautiful letter for Matthew, which she later shared on Facebook, allowing everyone to witness the bond between a mother and her son.

Words from the Heart: Marie's Letter to Matthew

“As much as I missed you, I absolutely loved hearing about your experiences every single week,” the letter read. “You had the option to go straight to college or get a job after high school, but you chose something much more meaningful. You set aside this time in your life to serve others and, most importantly, deepen your relationship with your Savior. That takes courage and commitment, Matthew, and I couldn’t be prouder.”

Marie went on to talk about the bittersweet experience of sending Matthew off to college just days after his return. “It wasn’t easy driving you back to college so soon,” she admitted. “Those first two days you were home went by so fast. But the third day, when I dropped you off and listened to your stories, it was one of those moments that will forever stay in my heart. Your drive and enthusiasm inspire me to be a better person. I can’t wait to see where life takes you next!”

Many of you ask me, “When do you get to speak to your son who’s a missionary?” Well, I am able to speak to Matthew on the phone only on Christmas and Mother’s Day over the 2-year period that he is serving a mission for The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints. However, each week, I write to him and let him know what’s going on at home, encourage him in the things that he is learning and going through, and I am very blessed to see Elder Plašil (that’s his last name) GROW in his testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He draws much inspiration from his personal experiences daily. In his letter this week, his words touched his Mom’s heart. 😊♥️ • My son embraces the Savior’s teachings that we can always repair what we have broken (either by word or action), and rely on His Atonement or “cleansing power” to wash away sins committed. ☺️ It’s as if we had never done them to begin with—and we are forgiven. On my Facebook page and MarieOsmond.com, see why cleanliness is next to godliness and read my missionary’s letter that I just posted. ✍️ 📖 💋 • Enjoy this #Happy #Sunday and have a fantastic week ahead! ☀️ • #HisDay #ProudMama #OnThe LordsErrands #repentance #Atonement #inspiration #MyMissionary #LovingChrist #MyBoyIsNowAMan

Her fans were quick to respond, showering her with love and admiration. “You must be so proud,” one fan commented. Another added, “Truly, the best day for a missionary mom. Enjoy your returned missionary!”

    Marie's Family Life

Marie shares Matthew with her ex-husband Brian Blosil. Together, they have eight children in total: Stephen, 36; Jessica, 32; Rachael, 30; Brandon, 23; Brianna, 22; Abigail, 17; and Michael, who tragically passed away at the age of 18 in February 2010. This isn’t the first time Marie has expressed her pride in Matthew. Last summer, she celebrated his birthday with a touching tribute on Instagram. “My son, I am so proud of you and can’t wait to see what this next decade of life has in store for you,” she wrote. “May you have the best birthday weekend and always remember how much you are LOVED by your MAAAHM!!”
