When Deborra-Lee’s birthday rolled around in November, Hugh made sure the world knew just how much his wife means to him. He posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, reminding us all what true partnership looks like. “Some people shine a light that transfixes us … others shine a light that envelops and includes,” he wrote. “The latter is my baby. My love, my wife. Happy birthday, Deb!”

At the 2018 Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where he received the prestigious Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film, he used the platform to shower Deborra-Lee with praise. I love you.”

Believe it or not, this love story almost didn’t happen. Deborra-Lee admitted to breaking things off early in their relationship, just three weeks in. I managed to talk her out of it, thank God.”
