It’s finally happening! After announcing her engagement to longtime boyfriend Joel Schiffman back in November 2019, Hoda Kotb is now diving deep into wedding planning. During an appearance on E!'s Pop of the Morning, Hoda opened up about who’s taking the reins on one of the most important aspects of her big day. “Can I tell you who’s picking out my wedding dress?” the 55-year-old asked host Lilliana Vazquez. Without hesitation, Vazquez responded, “Your mom! People don’t know that. Your mom styles you for the show.” And as it turns out, she hit the nail right on the head!

Why Hoda Trusts Her Mom’s Fashion Instincts

Hoda knows her mom, Sameha Kotb, has her back when it comes to fashion. “Yeah, if I’m wearing a good outfit, she picked it,” the TODAY cohost admitted. “If I’m wearing one of the other ones, somebody else—probably me—picked it.” It’s clear that Sameha has been a guiding force in Hoda’s life, not just in terms of style but also in moments that matter most. When Hoda married her first husband, Burzis Kanga, back in 2005, her mom was there every step of the way, helping her choose her wedding dress.

Now, with a second chance at love on the horizon, Sameha is once again stepping up to help her daughter shine on her special day. But this time around, she wasn’t entirely sure if she should take the lead. “She did say to me—it was so funny because she’s picked everything for me—and she said, ‘Honey, I don’t know, do you want me to pick your wedding dress?’” Hoda recalled with a laugh. “And I said, ‘Well, you picked the first one, so yes, please pick the second one!’”

Looking Forward to a Happy Future

While Hoda’s first marriage ended in 2008, just three years after she said “I do,” this new chapter feels different. “But this one is, you know, it’s gonna be fun,” she said with excitement. “So my mom’s in charge, and I’m so happy.” This time, Hoda is walking down the aisle with confidence and joy, ready to embrace a future filled with love and family.

When Joel marries Hoda, she’ll officially become a stepmom to his 25-year-old daughter, Kyle Schiffman. “It’s great to finally see just the two of them are so happy and they love doing the same thing,” Kyle shared with Closer. “They just enjoy each other’s time and they’re perfect for each other and I love them both so much!”
