In a heartfelt interview with The Hollywood Reporter on February 12, the 41-year-old actor shared, “My daughter is just over 2 years old now, and they spent a lot of quality time together over the past year and a half. Every time she was around, Kirk would light up. It didn’t matter what else was happening; when Lua was in the room, all she wanted to do was sit on his lap or be the center of his attention. Those moments were magical, and I plan to remind her of them as she grows up. Photos will help keep that connection alive. It’s truly something special.”

Cameron continued, emphasizing the importance of preserving these memories for his daughter. “As Lua gets older, I’ll make sure she understands how special their bond was. Despite Kirk’s impressive age, Cameron admitted that no amount of preparation could ease the pain of losing him. “Even though we knew it was coming—he was 103—it’s still incredibly difficult,” Cameron confessed. “What brings me comfort is the pride I feel in being his grandson and having had the privilege of spending so much time with him. Those moments are invaluable.”

Cameron, the son of Kirk’s eldest child, Michael Douglas, also highlighted the profound impact Kirk had on his life. “He was always there for me, offering unwavering support, even during my darkest days. There were times when I felt like giving up on myself, but Kirk never did. He made sure I knew I was loved and believed in, no matter what.”

After facing challenges with drug addiction and serving time in prison, Cameron is now focused on rebuilding his life and being the best father he can be to Lua Lizzy. To be closer to his grandfather and Anne Buydens, Kirk’s wife of many years, Cameron moved to Los Angeles. “I relocated to be just 15 minutes away from them. Over the past few years, I’ve spent a lot of weekends bringing my daughter and partner, Vivian Thibes, to visit. Watching the bond between my daughter and my grandfather grow was incredibly special. It reminded me of the kind of man Kirk was and inspired me to get my career back on track so he could see my life moving in a positive direction. That’s what he called ‘functioning.’”
