As the devastating wildfires continue to ravage Australia, Bindi Irwin can't help but feel the absence of her late father, Steve Irwin. In a heartfelt Instagram post on January 7, Bindi, now 21, shared her emotions about the country's plight and celebrated the legacy her dad left behind in inspiring her lifelong dedication to wildlife conservation.
“Dad spent his entire life tirelessly working to protect wildlife and wild places, particularly in Australia,” Bindi wrote, alongside a tender photo of her father cuddling a baby kangaroo. “I wish he was here with us right now, offering advice and strength during this catastrophic time with the bushfires. I truly believe his spirit lives on through all the conservation work we're doing, and I hope together, we can make him proud.”

Bindi’s emotional posts follow closely on the heels of her announcement that her family, including her mom, Terri Irwin, and her brother, Robert Irwin, have officially treated over 90,000 patients affected by the wildfires. These fires have already claimed the lives of an estimated 1 billion wild animals and scorched more than 14.7 million acres, according to NBC.
Bindi’s Commitment to Conservation
In one of her numerous posts about the wildfires, Bindi, who was just 8 years old when her father tragically passed away after being fatally injured by a stingray, emphasized the importance of environmental conservation and protecting wildlife.
“I want to sincerely thank each and every one of you for your kind words and unwavering support,” she wrote on Instagram on January 3. “The truth is, every single day is a battle to stand up and speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. Now, more than ever, it’s crucial that we unite and make a difference in protecting our Mother Earth.”
