More than six decades ago, Dick Van Dyke was lighting up Broadway with his charm and charisma. Fast forward to today, and guess what? The man still knows how to dazzle us. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, Dick, now 96, and his wife Arlene Silver, 50, shared a video of themselves singing and dancing to “Everybody Loves a Lover.” This classic tune originally made famous by Doris Day in 1958 is now getting a fresh twist thanks to this dynamic duo.
A Match Made in Heaven
Dick credits Arlene for bringing immense joy and energy into his life. He opens up about their connection in an exclusive chat with Closer. “She’s got this incredible ability to go with the flow,” he shares warmly. “She’s someone who loves to sing and dance, and we indulge in that almost every single day. It’s like having a little piece of heaven right here on Earth.” Arlene, in turn, isn’t shy about her admiration for her husband. “Dick is simply the most perfect human being I’ve ever met,” she says with glowing enthusiasm. “He radiates happiness, genuineness, and pure awesomeness. He’s like a daily dose of joy!”
Love at First Sight—or Powdering?
Their journey began in 2007 at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Dick was there to honor his legendary co-star Julie Andrews with a lifetime achievement award. That’s when fate intervened, and he met Arlene, a talented makeup artist. As she was dusting his nose with powder, they struck up a conversation. “He introduced himself by saying, ‘Hi, I’m Dick,’” Arlene recalls with a laugh. “The first thing I asked him was, ‘Didn’t you star in Mary Poppins?’” Despite the age difference, their friendship blossomed naturally. “It never felt like he was older than me,” Arlene adds. “We just clicked instantly.”

A Second Chance at Love
Dick, who had two long-term relationships spanning over 30 years each, never imagined he’d find love again. In fact, he admits he was initially concerned about public perception of their relationship. “I thought people would cry foul, thinking it was some sort of gold-digging situation,” he confesses. “But surprisingly, no one ever judged us that way.” The couple marked their 10th wedding anniversary on February 29, proving that love knows no boundaries.
Their recent musical video, uploaded to Arlene’s YouTube channel, features the Vantastix, an a cappella quartet that Dick formed a few years ago. “Singing and harmonizing keeps me young,” Dick explains. “It’s become my ultimate form of entertainment in retirement. Forget golf—I’d rather spend my time singing and dancing. It’s what keeps me going!”
