“Alright, everyone, listen up,” Savannah Guthrie chimed in during Al and Craig’s absence. “Last night, we got word that a colleague of ours, one who works on the third hour of the Today show, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.” Savannah paused for a moment, letting the news sink in. “So, out of an abundance of caution, Craig, who’s just 40 years young, and Al, the wise and wonderful 65-year-old, are taking the morning off. We’re tracing their contacts, checking in on them, making sure everything’s all good. Don’t worry, though—they’re both doing just fine right now. They’re feeling great. Thank goodness!”

Early Monday morning, NBC News President Noah Oppenheim shared the news that someone on their team had caught the virus. “We’re fully supporting our colleague, who’s experiencing mild symptoms and is receiving top-notch medical care,” Noah reassured everyone. “I know you all join me in wishing them a speedy recovery.”
Noah didn’t stop there. He wanted to ease any fears about the virus spreading further. “We’re taking every step necessary to ensure the health and safety of our teams,” he explained. “That means deep cleanings—multiple ones—of our offices, control room, and Studio 1A. We’re not leaving anything to chance.”

Savannah Guthrie Offers a Helping Hand
And let’s not forget Savannah Guthrie. The 48-year-old mom of two didn’t just leave it at the news. She stepped up to help families stay calm during these uncertain times. On Instagram, she shared a fun handwashing video. In the clip, Savannah and her 5-year-old daughter, Vale, were seen humming a little tune while washing their hands. “Taking 20 seconds to wash your hands doesn’t have to be boring,” Savannah captioned the video. “Make it fun, and you’ll make coronavirus less scary for the little ones.” Now that’s something Al and Craig can try with their families at home!
